My 'East of the Winchester Wall' includes Coleman, Farmer, Stepp and May. Larry Conley?

I have read enough of your entries to recognize the passion you have for basketball, especially at the high school level. You certainly have knowledge of both KY and Indy hoops. However, in saying that, I can't help but think this is a passive/aggressive way of highlighting Indiana's HS player history over KY. In an instant it went from KY's Mt.Rushmore to Indiana's starting 5, plus the first 5 off the bench. I say this tongue in cheek with a rye smile, knowing there is no argument over which state has the better legend of players. (much to my chagrin).

 

I mean after all, I would never mention the conversion to multi-class state champions in your fair state, nor the turmoil in auto racing that lead to years of no name 500 winners.

 

I really didnt mean that @ all. I was just naming my state since I asked you all to name yours. Thought it would be fair. No disrespect to kentucky @ all. I only named so many bcos I have more info about Indiana, my bad if it came across that way. I enjoy kentucky h.s. basketball just as much and u would be fair to mention the state tournament in Indiana sucks compared to Kentucky's.

With all the Lebron or MJ talk lately I would like to know who would be on the mt. Rushmore of kentucky h.s. basketball? Or a first team all time. Doesnt have to go by position or u could do it that way, just give me your top 4-5 names.

I am in no way old enough to remember most of the all time greats but I can start out with 4-5 guys just to get the list going.

King Kelly Coleman (idk how he would hold up against todays guys but hes one of the faces of kentucky h.s. bball)

Darrell Griffith (heard alot of stories about this guy. If half of them are true I would have loved to seen him play in h.s.)

Wes Unseld, Allan Houston, Richie Farmer, Rex Chapman are some other names.

Coleman, Unseld, Griffith top 3 and add 1 or 2 of the others for all time h.s. basketball players in Kentucky.

Since Im an Indiana guy and know more about Indiana, I'll give u an all time team for us; Center, Greg Oden. PF, Glenn Robinson. SF, Oscar Robertson. SG, Rick Mount. PG, Damon Bailey. Larry Bird, Steve Alford, Scott Skiles, Shawn Kemp and Eric Gordon off the bench. :isurrender:

Old Carr Creek HS had a player named Glenn Combs that was a guard in the ABA for a while. He could probably be added to a mountain list too.

I can only go with the ones I have seen play and they are Jeff Lamp, Darrell Griffith, Allen Houston and Rex Chapman.

Ok guys, if 90% of the readers on here scratch their head and say "who?" after a name is mentioned, then I think that should automatically disqualify them from being on "Mt. Rushmore". Several examples of this are above.

 

On the flip said of that, just because they have a ton of name recognition doesn't automatically qualify them either. I'll throw out Richie Farmer as an example.

Richie is a legend, his 5 state tournament appearances made his name for himself and the proud fans from Manchester. Back to back finals in '87 and '88, leading scorer in the final game each year totaling 27 and 51. I wanted to post all his S16 totals but I got tired of cutting and pasting.

 

State Tournament Points:

Coleman is the GW of KY Mount Rushmore.

I wanted to visit memory lane and pulled up some box scores. Those Bobby Keith teams were fun to watch, they weren't deep but they were so talented. Pennington, Asher, Chadwell, Richie and Russ Farmer just to name a few. KHSAA only goes back to 1985 but if my math is correct he only tallied two points as an 8th grader. From '85 thru '88 Clay made three finals appearances ('85, '87 and '88) and lost to eventual state champion, Pulaski in the opening round of the 1986 tournament. Two time MVP of "The Greatest Show in Hoops".

I guess that depends on what you define as the criteria. To me the "Mt Rushmore" would be the biggest legends of Ky HS Basketball, not necessarily the best. I think Coleman and Farmer are the 2 biggest legends of Ky High School basketball, so they are definitely on the monument in my mind.
