Specific to this, I see the Board of Trustees at UofL trimming its numbers by four, which would mean salary savings and less stress on the state pension fund. Same goes for whomever is the new president, as they will undoubtedly be making less than Ramsey. From an overall standpoint, this is consistent with other moves Bevin has made in terms of helping shore up the state pension fund. @Pura Vida, I understand you have concerns about Bevin's actions from the standpoint of making sweeping, unilateral decisions without consent of the General Assembly. I do share these. By the same token, who can count on the Ky Legislature to actually get anything done? And I disagree with your statement about Ky not being in a budget shortfall. June 18, 201610 yr I had no clue the Gov was allowed or could do this. I wonder if Pitino is worried since he lost a guy who had his back. Not getting into politics here...however, the state attorney general made a statement today, explaining that his office is currently reviewing Bevin's actions to verify their legality. The current format for establishing the board of trustees has been in place for 25 years, and it is currently unclear whether the executive order used by Bevin to dismiss the board is included in his ability to reorganize state agencies. My understanding is that there are 19 government trustees total...17 of which are appointed by the governer (often times on the recommendation of the university president, as was the case with several Louisville trustees), 1 who is elected by university staff from their fellow staff members, and then a final who is the president of the university student government.

It's dysfunction was primarily a product of the factionalism that arose over Ramsey. The Council on Postsecondary Education makes recommendations for new board members so I don't know if they're planning to just hand him a list that he'll rubber stamp or if he'll just take it under advisement, but it's a pretty big power for the governor if he can just do this all on his own out of the blue.

My guess is he CAN stay on as Foundation Chair if the Foundation is a separate legal entity (99% are) and was not formed and is not funded with State tax dollars which would keep it away from state control. Most foundations I have dealt with are funded by donors/alumni and corporate giving and I would assume the UofL Foundation is too. In those cases, the foundations governed by an independent board in accordance to IRS regulations, basically very similar to a not for profit organization. Saying that, Ramseys name is now Mudd and I would have to assume the Foundation will ask him to step down other giving may dry up.
June 19, 201610 yr Everything I read says that the title of UofL Foundation President is automatically going to whomever is University President. That means Ramsey will not be in that position, either. His gravy train has derailed.
July 13, 201610 yr I'm starting to worry we've been sold a bill of goods here. First meeting of the newly constituted board was this afternoon. It came and went and James Ramsey did not submit his resignation, nor was he asked to by the new board. Ramsey previously stated he'd submit his resignation to the new board when it first met. Welp... I don't know what's going on here and I don't like it. The governor used the opportunity of the board's division over Ramsey to fire them all and put in a new one in a way that probably violated state law. That seems to be the only real change we've gotten out of this whole debacle.

Junior Bridgeman Chairman pro tem UofL Board of Trustees" Which, if true, means interim board chair Junior Bridgeman flat-out lied in reporters' faces when asked if he offered his resignation during closed session yesterday. Furthermore, if they discussed his employment during that closed session, they violated the Kentucky Open Meetings law. Good lord, they just can't shake being terrible at this.
