Calipari Thinks coaches Know About On-Campus Scandals

Featured Replies

“All I can tell you is this: If it happens on your campus and it happens with your assistants and those people you probably have a pretty good idea of what’s going on,” Calipari said. “If it happens back in their home town, it happens back with their family or other ways there’s no way you can know. You just don’t know. So, all I would say is most coaches have an idea if it happened on their campus. You might not be the first to know about it, but you eventually hear about it.”

Calipari acknowledged he thinks there is a double-standard in the way certain coaches are judged when it comes to rules violations.

“It’s unfortunate, you wish there was more consistency about how they do things in the NCAA,” Calipari said. “There’s a belief out there of selective enforcement and some people will call right to (NCAA President Mark) Emmert and say, ‘Get these people off me’ and it changes and it’s selective.”

Sounds like he's probably saying what a lot of us already think.

Which is?

Pitino knew. :lol2:

Then Cal knew.

Twice.

They all know. Roy knows; Coach K knows; even that moron in Kansas knows!

Then Cal knew.

Twice.

The first time he self reported when he found out, so yes he did know, and did the correct thing.

The second time he knew the NCAA cleared Rose. He didn't know they uncleared him till the season was over.

Then Cal knew.

Twice.

He probably did know.

But I can see what he's saying and somewhat agree with him. Call it the blue goggles, but I believe much more that Joe Paterno, Rick Pitino & Roy Williams knew about their scandals that happened on their campuses than I believe John Calipari knew about Derrick Rose that happened off campus.

And besides, he said "probably". He wasn't definitive. So, it makes sense to me.

I think his big point is that different schools are treated differently for similar infractions.

After the Kansas / Memphis finals, wasn't Wright from Kansas determined to be ineligible after the fact? Yet Kansas got to keep their title.

They all know. Roy knows; Coach K knows; even that moron in Kansas knows!

The Scarecrow knows?

That target on his back just got bigger. Some people just don't know when to shut up and leave well enough alone.

So he admits to knowing about cheating at Memphis and Umass done by him and staff?
