What else would you expect from The U?

 

They have every right to play baseball that way. I have every right to say I don't respect it and think it is a clown show. Of course, if he did that in an NCAA football game for scoring an important TD he'd be flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct / taunting. No consistency.

Was the NC State guy a clown who hit the home run in the 8th or was his posturing ok?

No issue with it. You don't want him to do it, try getting him out.

 

I don't condone throwing at guys...as I get older I just realize more and more how dangerous it is. When I pitched in HS and college if a guy did that against me, I would have DEFINITELY plunked him the next time up...not around the head though. At the risk of sounding as old as Papa, guys just did not do stuff like that when I played - thankfully. So while I cannot condone it, I would certainly understand why a pitcher would drill him later on.

I've never understood hitting a batter like that. Instead of getting the batter out, the job of the pitcher, the batter gets on base again. The guy who hit the homer wins twice. If it were me, I'd say, "Thank you." and laugh all the way to first.

Well you would not hit him in a tight game. You may have to wait a game or two.

I'm guilty of doing this a few times in college. However, I went inside at the back, never at the head. I may or may not have been ejected before in HS for throwing inside. But I was always taught, and this where things get fuzzy with ALOT of people, to respect the game. It's one of those unwritten rules people don't like but that's how I grew up and was taught. It happens, but throwing at the head I would never.

Isn't there a taunting rule in football? That's what a bat flip is, especially the way that guy is doing it. Should baseball put a taunting rule in place like football?

Absolutely. If I am his coach, when he gets back to the dugout I explain to him why & how he needs to respect the game and his opponent. If nothing else, it's just bad karma.
