BG will tested again next week vs Christian County. I would say that County should be the favorite with all the injuries BG are having. Talk to some people around the County camp and they don't think the Purples can score on them. Should be a very close game.

Talk to some people around the County camp and they don't think the Purples can score on them.
Given the way Christian County's defense played last season, that's quite a statement.
The Purples have nothing to be upset about not winning this game. Some one made the statement earlier that the only reason the Purples made the score was because "They probably wouldn't have scored if not for an ill-advised X lateral that was recovered on the 10 yard line. BG then punched it in for their only score." I say bull to this statement....both teams really earned the points that were scored.....I will not listen to any bad statement about either of them...especially the Purples!

While I certainly respect your opinion and can appreciate your optimism, I stand by my statement. I saw the replay. St. X's QB ran into the line, started to get tackled, and he threw a last ditch lateral that was not on target and BG recovered. Did BG earn the recovery? Yes, they pounced on the ball once it was on the ground. But it was an unforced error to throw the ball like that. I have a hard time believing they score at all if not for that considering that they only gained 55 yards of offense and the biggest gainer all night was a 14 yard broken play.

Your defense is tremendous, but it was a lot to ask of the offense with their injuries. But I know they'll be fine, possibly as soon as next week. I apologize if you're offended by what you call a bad statement. And do understand that I agree that they have nothing to be upset about, losing only 15-7 in the face of a top notch team and a lot of adversity.

I can understand why some teams would be encouraged after seeing St X thow for a little less than a 100 yds, but I don't forsee many teams being able to line up and mash the Purples in the running game like St X did.

If there's one thing Bowling Green has always been great on, it's been running defense. I can't recall too many times that anyone ran on them for a lot. There certainly aren't too many teams that have the size and skill that St. X does. I'm guessing what you're saying is that BG had to respect X's running game more which opened up the passing game?

Just back from BG (Overnight Roadtrip..) My observations and points of emphasis for both teams....

Conditions: Extremely hot and both delt with the heat the best they could. First half, was bright sun and direct sun light.... Had to such any energy out of all the players.... I was dying siting and watching in the stands.... @nd half a little cooler, overcast... Field did appear to be moist and slippery. Ball carriers on both side lost footing several times when making cuts....

Observations: BG has good size on the line and really played well. Should be prepared for an outstanding season in the chase for the 3A crown. BG will have to settle on a QB. The taller of the two kids they played, is problably more athletic and needs to get comfortable in the pocket and passing game, timing...

Even though the Tigers got the W and the statistics were pretty ugly from BG perspective, it was a one play game....Anything can happen in a one play game. My hats off to BG and their team. Great host and great environment for opening weekend football.

St.X also needs to find a QB. A least two passes could have been picked by BG. Another couple were "up for grabs and thorwn into double coverage" and there were some floaters....... We all know what floaters turn into...turnovers.... A very poor decision on the pitch out deep in St.X's own territory.... The TO cost 7 points... A couple of balls were droped that were certianlly "catchable". Overall, I was kinda surprised that the X passing game did as well as it did.... several key plays on 3rd and long were execuited..... Not used to seeing that in late August from St. X...... 97 yards passing.... not a bad way to start...We have had much lower passing yard stats for early games.....

Anderson was a work horse in the first half. BG keyed on him and St. X did as well ...... No big gainers, several for loss early, then several 7 - 11 yard runs with initial contact after 6 yards.... Finch contributed very well and their is significant potential to cause a lot of people some major headachs...... Need to keep getting reps...

Special Teams were not Special..... St. X kicker and punter needs to work on speed of impact on the ball. TWO extra points were blocked because he is too slow to kick the ball... He is actually to slow to get himself in position to kick the ball... Did anyone else see this??? It occured on both extra points and the field goal, so I know it was not a one time thing.... On Kick offs, one went about 6 yards deep in endzone. The other three were to about the 10 or 15...? Not sure what to think about this but, Lots of work to be done....

Punts were slow to get off.... This will be a problem if it is not corrected.....

To many steps, etc.... Now, once the kick was in the air.... good hang time and distance.... Good punt coverage aswell...... Gave away a key first down late in ballgame by not focusing on punter and ball......

Overall - First Game, lots of mistakes, plenty to learn from.... Good to get the W and BG has nothing to be ashamed of... BG is very good and they will have a great year. Lots of work to do on the St. X side, I am confident the problems will be corrected. Go Tigers and on to Lex Catholic at the Fort.....

BG has a great D and will have to win with D and the running game and stick with#1 at QB and develop a short passing game. The BG kicking game is solid and they should be fine and make another title run this year. The St.X D looked like they have not missed a beat, got good push and persuit all night. The kicking game with the exception of the 2 blocked extra points (unbelievable effort by BG's #9)looked excellent and they will score a few TD's on returns this year. The O looked good at times and very out of sync at times, X for once have a bunch of guys who can catch and run but you have to get it to them. I was very impressed with Duece and he seemed to get better with every carry, he does not look like a soph. RB. Good effort by the Tigers but way too many mistakes and a lot to work on and also a lot to build upon. It will take a few weeks to hit stride but I think they will.Overall I was very encouraged by the game.

DL Moore blocked the second PAT, not Beard.

Just saw the numbers on the game...we both apologize for the oversight, but Ryan was real close again on that one too. From our vantage point, it looked as is Ryan got there before D.L. did!:thumb:

Birds are a good young team this year with a lot of speed, lookout BG. X, I hope that no one on either team is injured before or during that game. I would hate to hear excuses from fans on why their team didn't win because of someone not being able to play, or someone getting hurt early in the game. I really just want to see good football, and this game I think will be the closest game for the birds all year. Good luck to BG and X for the season, 2 very good programs.

What is BG looking out for? Also, not sure what excuses you are talking about. I believe everyone is just stating the obvious.

Isn't X nationally ranked? What does that say about the effort by the Purples? Maybe 3a should "watch out."

score not an indication of how X dominated this game statistically....................X must have an outstanding defense to hold BG to 7 points

Cam, Trinity is the nationally ranked team. I do think that BG has established itself as a team to be reckoned with based on the fact that they competed with a ton of injuries. Sounds like they were just a play or two away from stealing this game from the Tigers.

Well, good luck to the Birds, but, I really don't believe that BG has anything to worry about!

All you need is to get healthy offensively with Stellman and Hibbitt to go with your great defense, and you will give the Birds all that they can handle.

By the way, it was super to get together with you and PH again last night...plus I had the privilege of meeting Moma PH for the first time. I hope we find some way to continue playing each other in the future (plus it gives me another reason to visit my sister). It has truly been my privilege to work with Mr. PH on the Rafferty's Program Preview for the past two years. Both of you all are the personification of "GOOD PEOPLE"! :thumb:
