OK here's my 2 cents for what it's worth

I thought X looked a little inexperienced at a lot of positions, they played 2 QB's, maybe having both play could be better because if one is not on his A game then the other could be. And if one gets hurt the other has game experience. However I kind of like picking one by the end of the next game and sticking with him and letting him get the confidence of the coach's and get the game experience. This of course is coming from me, and I'm not the coaches. Just my opinion.

Anderson, left early it was hot! But hey would rather have him healthy at the end of season than the beginning if I had to choose. They could have improved on stuff, don't want to list the negatives, but I'm sure they will improve during the season, after all it was just the 1st game.

But I don't know what to think about the QB situation, are both QB's seniors?????

X marks the spot!

One QB is a senior (Wade) and one is a junior (Zoeller). My only headache is for the first time in a long time we have a super group of receivers. We just need a QB who can get the ball to them, and we will have one heck of an offense. Time for special tutoring in throwing the ball.

All you need is to get healthy offensively with Stellman and Hibbitt to go with your great defense, and you will give the Birds all that they can handle.

By the way, it was super to get together with you and PH again last night...plus I had the privilege of meeting Moma PH for the first time. I hope we find some way to continue playing each other in the future (plus it gives me another reason to visit my sister). It has truly been my privilege to work with Mr. PH on the Rafferty's Program Preview for the past two years. Both of you all are the personification of "GOOD PEOPLE"! :thumb:

We really appreciate that! Also, Mama loved the birthday wish! It was the first time we had seen a hs football game together since my nephew played in the 3A title game in 1980 for Franklin-Simpson. That was when Joker Phillips was also a senior, but he got a case of hepatitis and the whole team had to get shots. They lost three games in a row after that, then got it together and won the brass ring again! Biggest heart I ever saw in a football team, bar none!

Well, we're here anytime you want to holler at us when you visit your sister!:D

Second year in a row that Ryan Beard blocked two placements. That simply does not happen to St X!! I know that they pride themselves in special teams play. BGHS looked disjointed and out of synch on offense, but with your starting QB and your Top Gun sidelined, it could have been VERY ugly. I was very proud of the guys keeping their composure and hanging in there with a team that's only going to get much better quickly!

Deuce Finch showed brief glimpses of what he can be...I was VERY impressed with him. St X had the ball a lot more than BGHS, but their scores were 1 yd, 1 yd, and a short field goal, so I feel like the Purples D played like they know how to play. Great to see Stuart Hines win Defensive Player of the Game! Congrats to Vic Anderson for taking the Offensive Award home for the second year in a row!:ylsuper:

No worries about the BGHS Offense. Once Avery and Trent get healthy again, you're going to see a much more potent and consistent offense.

So I say congratulations on another tough, hard-fought game to the Tigers and the Purples. They both faced adversity in both games and even the scores were almost identical (13-7 last year and 15-7 this year). We lost both games, but at least last year's game was very beneficial to both teams, and I think that it'll be the same case this year. There have been eight games in the series, and these were the two best in the series that started in BGHS's second Homecoming in 1925!

With the new classes coming into play starting next year, who knows? We just might see each other again! I say bring 'em on, and we'll welcome our friends from Tiger Nation back again and tell 'em, "It's good to see you all again!"

Thanx, guys! Even though we lost both games, it was a great series, and we've made a bunch of good friends!:thumb: :D

Great post as usual PurpleHaze, Good luck to your purples this year.:thumb:

Thanx a bunch, Dawg! If we can finally get past that pesky injury bug, we'll be fine. That St X game was a BIG test of the character of the reserves...they did alright in my book!:D

The fans are a class act down in BG, They will get this team fired up for another playoff run. Good luck as always, I am just glad we don't up with the purples Defensive buzz saw. Take care PH.

That game personified the term "winning ugly". BG played their heart out and St. X emptied both six shooters into their feet, but still managed to pull a close one out at the end. The game score was just about where I expected it, I just didn't expect so many St. X miscues. I believe some of the illegal proceedure calls can be contributed to a difference in "rule interpation" between one sideline official and the St. X coaching staff. However, coach Glaser was not issued a yellow flag so you have to go by what happened on the field.

By looking at the stats you would have thought that St. X would have won by a lot, that just shows you how mistakes can hurt you. St. X did manage close to 300 yards the hard way and that has to be encouraging. I was glad to see St. X throw it 18 times, the tight end across the middle looked especially good. I am sure the QB play will only get better in the next few weeks, it's just going to take a little more practice and game experience. It looked like the defense was quicker to the ball than last year and had a lot more gang tackling going on. This defense has the potential to be very good if they don't let up.

I was looking forward to watching Avery play, it would have been a good test for the Tiger defense. The heat and injuries hindered players on both teams. Hopefully Avery and Vic will be ready for the next game. BG will do alright this year and have a good chance to go the finals again if they get over the injuries and continue to work hard.

I enjoyed this series and hopefully BG can make a trip to Louisville to play in the new St.X stadium in the near future.

Agree totally with that statement...winning ugly. I'm with you on the prospects for the team with a little time. High # of penalties and fumbles will most definitely be addressed in practice this week. Expect a BIG improvement here, and as a result, a much more efficient attack next week. I think we'll see a big game out of Vic, he really wants to lead the team this year. With the receivers we have, I agree with the use of the passing game. I think it would keep other teams from keying on Vic and Duece too heavily. Some of the quickest receivers X has had in some time.

As for the defense: contrary to what Coach Glaser said in the C_J preview, I had heard we might be pleasantly surprised with the quality of this years defense. Watching Saturday night got me excited to see just how good this unit can be. The line appears bigger and pursuit to the ball was really good. Nice quickness for their size. It will be interesting to see who can run on them. Linebackers moved to the ball well. Good gang tackling. Hard to tell about the secondary due to the game not really getting past the line of scrimmage most of the night. I think the secondary will get their test this week with Lex Cath.

Need to shore up the special teams. Miscues last week helped keep the game close. Usually a strength and I'm sure they will be as the season progesses.

For all the inexperience, I'll take 'winning ugly' for the first game. Expect a much 'cleaner' game out of the Tigers this week.

Hey Old Corps!

If my scarred old Air Force body can be convinced to come up, that would be great if they can get that scheduled...I'd love to see the new place!:thumb: :D

Like everyone else, I hope this series continues. BG has a great program, and it's a great competitive game for both schools. With the new districts, this game is a must.

I am sure with all of your clout you can "git-r-done".
