St. Xavier 15 Bowling Green 7

Featured Replies

BG's center Aric Johnson, OLB George Bowra, and MLB Tucker Jackson were out the 2nd half with injuries. The Purples have really been bitten by the injury bug. It was a pretty ugly game by the Purps, and you have to wonder if they would have faired better with all varsity starters. Heat was a factor again for both sides, but St. X's depth and Glasser's efficient exploitation of it certainly contributes to their success.

Tons of Bowling Green injuries in key positions. This game still was up in the air late. Rolandan Finch looked great;)

Trying to be very objective...I thought Stuart Hines was the most impressive player of the game.

BG's offense seemed to lack confidence without Steelman and Hibbit. There was a question as early as Monday whether or not Hibbit was a go or not.

BG's defense is excellent...they fought off bad field position all game due to the offense's inability to flip the field.

The dropped INT was huge...14 point turnaround...It looked like he would have scored.

ST.X Defense did well and stopped all but a few plays on the BG offense. D line looked good and good pursuit and gang tackling.

ST X Offense looked out of sync, trying to find the right QB, ran few plays and struggled with penalties. Some good things - passing game shared the reps with running, Duece looked good, and scored when they had to to win. Tight Ends made a few catches and FB had several good runs. Sevral broken plays and missed assignments.

BG offense did not look like last years version. No passing game and run was shut down other than one short TD run. BG Defense played well at times but ST X had so many penalties it was hard to tell who was hurting the drives more - STX on STX or BG defense on ST X.

Any win is a good win.

Second year in a row that Ryan Beard blocked two placements. That simply does not happen to St X!! I know that they pride themselves in special teams play. BGHS looked disjointed and out of synch on offense, but with your starting QB and your Top Gun sidelined, it could have been VERY ugly. I was very proud of the guys keeping their composure and hanging in there with a team that's only going to get much better quickly!

Deuce Finch showed brief glimpses of what he can be...I was VERY impressed with him. St X had the ball a lot more than BGHS, but their scores were 1 yd, 1 yd, and a short field goal, so I feel like the Purples D played like they know how to play. Great to see Stuart Hines win Defensive Player of the Game! Congrats to Vic Anderson for taking the Offensive Award home for the second year in a row!:ylsuper:

No worries about the BGHS Offense. Once Avery and Trent get healthy again, you're going to see a much more potent and consistent offense.

So I say congratulations on another tough, hard-fought game to the Tigers and the Purples. They both faced adversity in both games and even the scores were almost identical (13-7 last year and 15-7 this year). We lost both games, but at least last year's game was very beneficial to both teams, and I think that it'll be the same case this year. There have been eight games in the series, and these were the two best in the series that started in BGHS's second Homecoming in 1925!

With the new classes coming into play starting next year, who knows? We just might see each other again! I say bring 'em on, and we'll welcome our friends from Tiger Nation back again and tell 'em, "It's good to see you all again!"

Thanx, guys! Even though we lost both games, it was a great series, and we've made a bunch of good friends!:thumb: :D

Certainly once Bowling Green gets these injuries sorted out they will be back. I was unaware of the additional second half injuries, but really the damage with Hibbitt and Steelman out is enough. You're talking about a Mr. Football candidate and your only passing threat there. But still, I was surprised by how ineffective the offense was. The defense, as always, was very good, but St. X did have a good amount of success, especially through the air.

I guess you're feel good about your Dragons chances in a couple of weeks.

I didn't say that. I just made an observation. Although I do think it is encouraging for Central that X was able to throw the ball on Bowling Green.

It was a pleasure to meet both Mr.& Mrs. Purplehaze, hope to see you again.

I think a certain degree of optimism would be totally justified.

Xtiger69 , it was wonderful to see you too! And, as always, I loved seeing oxnard, he is such an upbeat, wonderful person! And, because we saw so many other people, I don't want to leave anyone out, so, I will say...it was great seeing ALL of you!!!!!

You know, there were a lot of injuries, it was very hot, and it was the first game, so, all this being said I say both teams did wonderful...

As for the Purples....I feel very confident when I say that this will be the last game they will lose....these guys did a wonderful job!!! WAY TO GO PURPLES!

As for Beard...my goodness, what a player. I don't care what kind of block, or how far he needed to block....this kid can block anything!!!!! Who would think that the top offensive line prospect in the state 2006 would win DEFENSIVE player in the game!!!

Hines did a wonderful job!!! This kid is also an amazing player....

Really, I think all of the kids can play! I am so proud of them all!!!!!!!

I was really wanting to see more out of Anderson and Finch, however, what I did see out of Finch I was really impressed! Finch can really cut on a dime! PH made the comment that he reminded him of Tony Dorsett. Once this kid gets some experience in him, there is not going to be any stopping him!!

The Purples have nothing to be upset about not winning this game. Some one made the statement earlier that the only reason the Purples made the score was because "They probably wouldn't have scored if not for an ill-advised X lateral that was recovered on the 10 yard line. BG then punched it in for their only score." I say bull to this statement....both teams really earned the points that were scored.....I will not listen to any bad statement about either of them...especially the Purples!

Way to go BOTH teams....each team can proudly say that they did a great job against an un-beatable team!!!!!!!

Whoa this was a close game. what happend to Vic Anderson?

DL Moore blocked the second PAT, not Beard.

I can understand why some teams would be encouraged after seeing St X thow for a little less than a 100 yds, but I don't forsee many teams being able to line up and mash the Purples in the running game like St X did.

I hate that I missed that one...must have been getting something to drink...WAY to go Moore....Ryan Beard did get two and that was OUTSTANDING!!!!!
