Then they each went to their respective parties to drum up enough votes bipartisan to pass the bill. This never happens anymore. If they are seen huddling together, they're considered traitors. What's really driven a wedge in congressional give-and-take has been the emergence of the Tea Party. Republicans who used to compromise now find themselves with a Tea Party primary opponent if they do so. For 200 years government operated by giving one party X if they supported bill Y. No longer. Your argument about C-SPAN is interesting because the Supreme Court still bans cameras. Audio only. I doubt, however, if much would change if cameras were banned from the House and Senate.

This gridlock began much earlier than the Tea Party formation. Possibly during the Justice Bork Supreme Court hearings. Democrats never got over hard feelings toward him because of his handling of Special Counsel during Watergate. And Republicans felt that an honorable man was disrespected by them and that it had nothing to do with his outstanding qualities to be a Supreme Justice. But they blocked him anyway. And I never want cameras in the Supreme Court.

If Trump gets more than 20 percent of the total Hispanic vote in November, I'd be surprised. Might well be closer to 10 percent. I've known and talked tons of Mexican immigrants when I lived in florida. In their country there were imigration laws. They followed the laws to get here and they are just as angry as everyone else about the illegal situation. They used very choice words to describe them and said it shines a very negative light on all latinos. It's bad for everyone. That was 14 years ago. It's gotten worse.
