Teachers should be trained and firearms in a safe in each classroom.

FTN, I promise you don't want that. Teachers are more stressed than prison guards according the a recent study. They don't need a firearm.

SROs are great, but armed teachers...no.

Budget wise there are never enough SROs. Guns locked in a safe are safe. It will save lives. How many unarmed teachers have to face an armed suspect before we change our thought process. We protect people, money, borders, assets with guns but our kids are not good enough to protect with the same? With proper training they could stop a school attack in minutes. 15 to 20 armed teachers vs 1 or 2 nut jobs. I have no problem sending my kids to a school like that. In fact I'd feel better.

Firearms training for each student in America would be a good thing.

In all seriousness I don't think you could get 15-20 teachers in a school to take on that responsibility, and I don't blame them.

Bluegrass, I agree firearms training is imperative just not in school.

We are digressing: Can anyone tell me if Trump wants them in the classroom from his statement?

I think some of the confusion originated from a Hilary quote at one of her speeches. I believe she said something along the lines of Trump mandating guns in classrooms. In reality, he said that he would support teachers having a gun in their classroom, which in my opinion is different than mandating guns in classrooms.

You're expecting honesty from Hilary?

What happens when a teacher is the nut job and kills a class room full of kids?

If that's a possibility would our current laws prevent this or could a crazy teacher get guns into a school anyway? I believe he/she could, therefore arming teachers at least gives added protection from external threats.

Another teacher with a gun shoots the nut job and prevents them from killing even more kids.

Damage already done.

We don't live in a fantasy unfortunately.

Adding guns provides instant access without premeditation.
