This seems like a good option, but getting that land will likely be lengthy and difficult process.

Using this path and the current Railroad Corridor would be much easier to acquire the land than anyplace else that I could see. Could put this in place and less than 40 homes would have to be purchased. Road would have to cross over the railroad a couple of times with a few overpasses...but it would be the most workable location that I could find.

After researching it it looks like it all started in 13. So really doing the whole thing in 3 years is pretty impressive.

Correct. Right now the Downtown Bridge is being used for North and Southbound traffic, as the old (Kennedy) bridge is being resurfaced. All that remains to be finished is the decking on the Kennedy and few spots on the new approach. Again, all scheduled to be finished by the end of 2016.

Correct. The Lincoln is open while the Kennedy is repaired.

I think it has more to do with local will. As I said if it got shut down for 6 months there would be a new bridge built no question. Also putting incentives in the contract for finishing ahead of schedule doesn't hurt.

Well I would daresay that the increases in cost would offset the cost of lawsuits to municipalities if there was a collapse while people were on it.

 

Sorry to say but the era of responsible management of public funds is gone. If you want infrastructure repair then there needs to be new ways to fund it because while we bicker and argue about the details the likelihood of a catastrophic event increases.

I agree ans understand, but to dismiss it out of hand is a good way to end up with damaged and/or defunct infrastructure.

Agreed, I haven't driven that bridge in years so I guess I don't really care about the tolls that much. :lol2: I just don't trust the city with the extra money. It will go to waste.
