Augusta votes draw & claims it is fair bc they are a small school. Being soft on them in regular season is NOT going to prepare them for the draw they had for this district tournament. There is a good chance Augusta will go to Region. Are they gonna be upset to be beat by this much in Region play? I thought that it is the mentality of taking a draw that "to be the best, you gotta beat the best"

 

Why not? Why should a team take it easy on another team? Where's the life lesson in that? It Seems like PC did the most they could with it ending in 3 innings. And is there going to be a thread to talk about how unfair it is for Auguata to be beat by the run rule in Region?

 

Feels like to me that Augusta wants the best of both worlds. Get into a region by draw but have regular season opponents take it easy on them bc they are the less qualified team.

 

8-0 wouldn't be the "run rule" to end game.

The main reason that I'm expressing my opinion is that (1) PC is a young team with their first .500 record in several years; they are rebuilding & took advantage of winning (2) Augusta continues to claim that "you got to beat the best, to be the best;" they have drawn St Pat which means Mason or Bracken will not make Region. Maybe that 35 run loss will prepare Augusta for regional play.

 

What was the run differential in every Augusta game this year?? Why are we only crucifying PC when I'm sure there was or will be another loss for Augusta that is of this nature.

 

PC does not subscribe to bad sportsmanship - this was ONE game & Maybe they needed batting practice since they don't have funds for a batting cage, yet...

 

Augusta can choose not to play PC next season if they really feel like they were treated unfairly

 

Why don't the ppl judging the PC coaches (anonymously), go to a game & ask the coaches if they could comment why they made that decision for that particular game.

 

Obviously, threads on Bluegrass Preps leave arguments up to a persons own perception. These threads are not helping either FastPitch ball team.

 

Instead of making snap judgements, why has no one contacted PC directly?

 

Your comments have been more objective - there are many who are judging & even one comment calling for termination of coaches.

 

The PC coaches have done a tremendous job this year & if Auguata is that discouraged by this game, the. They have the right to not schedule the LadyCats next season.

It is also pretty clear that you either have 1) a severe deficit in your understanding of sportsmanship or 2) don't care about sportsmanship.

No one has argued about PC players or their work ethic. This is purely and squarely 100% on the coaches. I believe both played college ball, therefore they have been around this game enough to know how it works.

 

You can never defend the indefensible, much like you can never convince those that are not willing to see exactly what they are looking at for what it is.

 

If I am Keith Smith, I'm having a serious discussion with the coaches about their ability to represent my school and their ability to present good role modeling for PC students.

 

Call it what you want…it's a travesty that no one benefits from.

Again, if you don't see the point of addressing This with the coaches from PC & Augusta than you're just creating a way bigger problem

I coach college ball. Assisted a travel ball team that sent 6 players to D1 . Just don't go there .

Unless there is some side story rather than just a decent team playing an outmanned opponent . You don't run it up past 20 plus runs . You step off early - be discreet as possible , and get out of town dreading having to play such an inferior opponent again. Because you get ZERO from it .

Isn't stepping off the base and showing all the players and fans that the other team is so awful that you have to give away outs just as embarrassing as 35-0 score?

Sometimes, it's just necessary. Either way the pitcher doesn't feel any better about the situation, but it at least gives her the opportunity to get off the field sooner. Any way you cut it, it's humiliating. Running the score that high...unnecessary...

That's not nearly as embarrassing as a 35-0 score. That's what you do.

No such rule in high school.

An unspoken point is that Pendleton's coaches did not suddenly find themselves in an unexpected runaway game. They had every reason to expect this outcome (they had just beaten Augusta 21-0 in three innings in late April) and should have prepared their team and strategy of handling it with class well in advance. Shame on them for not taking the opp to teach meaningful and valuable life lessons, other than "when you get your opponent defeated grind it in their face". For those of us that coached for years, there is zero excuse for this lack of respect for a far inferior opponent.

For what is worth, both teams have some distant neighbors to the north that has been a fierce, competitive rivalry for as long as I can remember in CCHS and Brossart. The meetings are usually tight but if there ever was a game that had the chance to be this lopsided, I can't imagine either coach Kitchen or coach Baynum ever trying to embarrass the other.

The same goes for the Newcath/HHS rivalry. Get to the run rule and step off or change something to end the game.

Respect and kharma tend to always find a way to enter the equation. The latter can get ugly.

Take HHS football for instance. For all the success that came to the Birds with the previous leadership, the thing that always bugged this poster was this type of attitude of seeing how many digits can be put on the board. Our friend Kharma reared her ugly head at them this year at times and they had it coming. I know this isn't the philosophy of the new leadership but it will take a while to remove the retaliation aspect.

 

There is a reason why in summer ball tournaments there is usually a max run differential in games even though it is part of the seeding process. For instance, you can win by a 35-0 score but you may only get 8 runs to show for it.

Wow, doesn't look to me like this was the first time they played with a huge score. Also, why would a coach run up the score when their team had been on the other side of a lop-sided score game?

I think it comes down to respect for the game and respect for the team you are playing against. To me it is like pressing in basketball when you are up by 25 or more. I always hope it will bite the coach in the butt when they are down by 25 and people are pressing their team and running up the score.

 

I played softball a long time ago in Texas and we had a lot of club softball players on our team (played year round) and in our district we played a team that was inner city and had very few girls who had the fundamentals to play the game but we had to play them. We could have absolutely killed them with a score like this, we could of made it a stat builder but we didn't. Once we got to the run rule we put our JV players in and finished the game that way and didn't embarrass our opponent.

 

I will never understand a score like this EVER!
