If, what you are implying is that having a "mercy rule" is "wussification", then you are part of the problem with sports and in particular sportsmanship. You don't get it….and to be honest it's not worth a lot of effort to attempt to explain it, you obviously already know it all.

 

False. Telling a team to not swing or to get out on purpose teaches nobody anything. I'm all for a run rule. You get your butt kicked in life from time to time have to learn to deal with it and grow. It's life.

This score is rediculous. Just step off and learn how to win with class. This type of win is classless.

The adults involved in this game should all be ashamed of themselves for allowing this score. Furthermore, the AD at PC should be having a serious talk with their coaches on sportsmanship. Didn't they play college ball? This was deliberate. I can't believe the umpires let this happen.

This doesn`t surprise me coming from the coaches at Pendleton Co.. Harrison Co. went to play at Pendleton earlier this year for a District game. Pendleton`s home field is the field closest to the road, this is the field they play all their home games on. When Harrison got there this field wasn`t even lined. Nothing wrong with the field. They set up the lower BIG field to play. Harrison had no clue why. Come to find out one of Pendleton`s parents said the coaches did that because they didn`t want Harrison Co. hitting homeruns. But that is the mindset of these coaches.

Why can't they put a rule in place to just call the game after it gets so far out of hand if both coaches agree. I don't want to embarrass anyone but I think it is just as embarrassing to have kids purposely strike out or step off the base. Does this make the losing team feel better saying they only lost by 15 runs but the winning team quit trying. Just call the game.

Agreed. Should be a rule about being up X after 3 innings.

There is a rule. It's the run rule - 15 after 3. The issue is getting to 3 innings without scoring 35 runs.

Unless they scored all 35 runs in the top of the 1st inning, I can't see any other explanation. Perhaps they thought Augusta could score 36 runs?

 

I can see maybe scoring 18 - 19 runs to make sure the run rule takes affect but not 35.

Exactly. And that's what most teams do. But to get there, you have to step off or do something to end the innings. The right thing to do is get to a safe run rule lead then purposely end the inning to get to 3, so the game is called. Apparently to some, being a good sport against an overmatched opponent is "wussification."

A simple rule of thumb would be to treat your opponent like you would like to be treated!

 

This is also a perfect example of why High School stats do not matter to college coaches!

Can't really do this...but you can step off the base and end your offensive half of the inning and after doing a little research, it would seem that the coaches have to know this. (They are very experienced)
