Which is a great question in and of itself. How is Ludlow not in that district instead of Beechwood if these districts are geographically based.

What happens to players if they suspend / shut down the girls program? Would they be free to transfer without sitting out a year? What if the administration sits on it and doesn't decide until SEP or OCT to suspend / shut down the girls program? Seems like a tough situation for those already in the program.

I am no expert, but what I think would happen is that Beechwood would have to officially suspend/cancel the program and any kid that would want to transfer would have to go through some red tape, but could become eligible without penalty. However, to your point, my guess is that would have to happen soon to allow for the time to get through all the administrative stuff.

I don't see them cancelling the program this year. While it may not be ideal they do have at least 4 Girls from last years team returning and 3 girls from 8th grade who will be freshman next year. Could also have 2-4 girls who may return to the program for their senior years who have played previously for the Tigers.

I have thought about him too. I think he would definitely be the right type to "recruit" kids from within the school to come out for the team. I still don't know about his fit for varsity high school basketball as opposed to AAU. Not saying he wouldn't be good for it, just an unknown.

Have no clue where you have gotten info about the strength of returning team. Got all three Stoke sisters returning and one of NKy's best in Ally Johnson (Bucknell commit). BW should have best team in last decade. Great opp for new hire, especially opening of new second gym to give practice time necessary to prepare team. Rare problem little known by outsiders.....one gym with both boys and girls 4-12 grade programs competing for time in same gym. Major historical retardant for quality basketball.

Correct 8 kids last year, 4 will graduate this year one of those girls will be Olivia Stokes.

OC, I didn't say anything about strength of the team returning. My comment stated that I think BW will field a team next year. That team will consist of 4 returning players including Ally Johnson, Kimi Stokes, Laney Sullivan, Maddie Stokes possibly 3 Freshman Joclyn Stokes, Mar Johnson, Cameron Johnson and some other girls who have played in the past may come back for their senior years.

Yes, Suzy is retiring. Thanks to her for a great job at Beechwood and all she gave to the school over many years.

 

As to one gym, that changed this spring. Beechwood has a brand new second gym right behind the main gym. Practice time and access to a gym took a big step forward.

 

The cupboard may refill. Some girls who left the program the past couple years may come back.

 

Yes, no JV and no freshman last year but some girls from those classes who left basketball might return. The right coach can get numbers back up.

 

I agree Beechwood will field a team and they may be better than many expect.

 

As to talent in lower grades, the 6th grade girls were undefeated. The 7th grade girls were also very strong with good numbers in their 6th grade season. Last year they split that class up so they could move girls up to the 8th grade team and they held their own. Hopefully all those young girls stick with basketball.
