Open Job: Beechwood

Looking further down the pipeline, I have heard that a girls club team was formed after the first of the year called the Bluegrass Belles and they play out of Griffin Elite. Supposedly, there are two teams made up of mostly BW girls in 1st grade and 5th grade. I hope BW forms a 2nd grade team for these girls next year so they can start building the pipeline earlier. From what I hear, the 5th grade team played in an AAU league with teams much older and bigger.

Suzy is retiring?

Yes she is. She took on many jobs there and will be missed by many.

I have thought about him too. I think he would definitely be the right type to "recruit" kids from within the school to come out for the team. I still don't know about his fit for varsity high school basketball as opposed to AAU. Not saying he wouldn't be good for it, just an unknown.

Any news on this?

I haven't heard word one in a while. Going to be interesting with Wera out when this process picks up. I still lean to Skinner being the favorite based on opinion and logic, no facts. I have no idea who is even handling the hire at this time or if they will try to get an AD in before they restart.

I heard Skinner is going to be at Beechwood in some capacity, either boys or girls basketball. It makes sense he would get a chance at taking this position. Besides, he can scoop the entire tri-state media by announcing his own hire on Local 12 News. lol!

Well they do have two openings on the boys side so that would make a lot of sense. He had a heckuva an 8th grade team.

I heard he is a very good coach and communicates the game in a positive way to the players. I have watched him on TV and listened to him when he had radio shows in the past, and I think he is very knowledgeable about basketball. It would make sense Beechwood would hire him as a coach. After watching Tricia Macke lead Holy Cross to a great season, maybe hiring media types will become the fashion in the 9th Region. Here's hoping Skinner gets the Beechwood job.

Richard Skinner? Anyone else hear this? He applied at Dixie earlier. Knows the game and is very good with parents and the players.

Really? Know any parents who's kids have played for him? Ask them how he is with them or their kids? He's a mini version of the former boys coach at Scott with the kids.

It is my understanding that Skinner coaches very hard, but he is very well respected at Beechwood.

Everyone I talked to says Skinner is great. He is demanding but fair, honest and unafraid of telling a mom or pop to let him do the coaching while they root in the stands. Sounds like a good coach to me. From your tone, sounds like you are one of the "power parents" who want to control the coach. That doesn't work with Skinner, and it should not work with any coach at any level.

Nobody has mentioned Chrissy Wilson who seems to be the lone holdover from last year's staff. Chrissy is orchestrating the girls camp which starts in a couple of weeks so she is still on board at BW.

The BW high school principal has sent out an e-mail to a group of parents asking their thoughts on what they would like to see in a coach. One parent mentioned that he thought that having a teacher / coach would be ideal so that they are a presence at the school and promote the program on a daily basis. Interesting notion.

Wilson is very well liked by the players.

Had not heard the term "Power Parents" before seeing it on another thread. So aptly describes every coaches greatest nightmare. Sure hope CincinnatiRed is not one and was just repeating an obervation. BW retiring AD Suzy Wera has been able to insulate her coaches from these disruptive forces for a billion years. Sure hope her replacement has that mentality and skillset.

Rich will not be the coach. Staying on the boys side.

Skinner is going to be one of the Beechwood boys JV coaches. That is the word from Ft. Mitchell.
