I heard 21 for spring this came from a parent of a player . and I agree if the wanted numbers to grow they should of kept Feggins

That "21" is false because on the day in question 14 players were at after school tutoring as mandated by the former coach who was attempting to run a solid football program. In Feb WC had nearly 40 team members at a local powerlifting meet that I was at

It's just that the makeup of the student body is completely different than it was even a decade ago. They have a huge European and ESL population, and for the most part, they're not coming out to play football. They are also extremely impoverished, with 78% of the student body being FARL eligible.

 

In a decade, Warren Central has seen their Asian population jump by 716% to now be around 8% of the school population. Their Hispanic population has jumped by 295% to be around 14%. At the current trends, by the end of the decade the school would be more than 50% minorities (something that no other high school anywhere near here is even close to aside from BGHS). And their FARL eligible population has jumped from 46.2% of the student body to 78%. The football program, along with most others at the school, suffers from a lack of funds and a lack of interest. I'm not trying to place stereotypes on anyone, but the reality is that the school has a very different makeup than it used to, and the student body as currently comprised has not seemed to express a desire for most of the sports.

 

I believe Central also loses students to other schools, particularly South, because some parents are scared to have their children in a school that diverse. They also parrot the test scores, which are by and large a product of an extremely large ESL populace at Central. And when you lose so many of those kids before they even make it to the middle school feeder, it affects participation in sports. And as the sports then begin to suffer, it adds the team performances as another incentive to go elsewhere.

 

This is a particularly delicate and uncomfortable subject, but it is easily the biggest factor in where they are. It wasn't that long ago that the football team was a state contender that was unfortunate enough to share a district with THE state contender, their basketball team was the class of the region, and their baseball team took Male to the wire at state. Talking within the last 4-6 years for each of those.

Never been a Dragon fan but it really is a shame. They (Board of Education) messed up the lines from day 1. Even the elementary level with South district. Year before Jody Richards was built, Richpond had 700+ students. Now Jody Richards has 700+ students and Richpond has 300 (hallways at Richpond are shut down and those classrooms not even used). How does that make sense? Now they redraw lines and parents dont want their child to leave the new school. I dont blame them. Same with South and WCHS. You cant blame the South families for not wanting their kids to go to WCHS. The damage has been done and it will take a few years and a lot of unhappy parents to fix it. I honestly dont see how they are going to fix it. Old Morgantown Road is simply not an ideal location for folks to move to. The screw up happened a few years ago. Adding to that the majority of refugee families will be moving into WCHS area that has no desire for American football and you have a major problem. WCHS could seriously have their program threatened at the varsity level.

Huh? Based on his stellar work at Paducah? Or the number of trophies he's put in the cases of the teams he's coached? He's a good coach, but let's be realistic here.

Mike is a really good coach. He turned Graves around, then went to Warren Central and beat BG a couple of times. Just couldn't get past the purples. I would say that covers alot of teams. Yes he knew what was coming but everyone did, WC was decimated by the redistricting. Don't know what happened at PT, but I am sure he will land somewhere.

He will be the next coach at Christian Co when a change is made.

So in about 15 more years.
