I think DeMaurice Smith, whose scorched Earth tactical approach, has done a horrendous job for the players. He has been able to prey upon players by encouraging them to be vocal about their displeasures. You ever see NBA players or MLB players sounding off on their commissioners to the degree NFL players do? Now Goodell has earned much of that, but that is Smith's job to predominately convey.

I was laying in bed last night thinking the NFL players need to strike next time around. I won't hold it against the players. As a matter of fact, I hope we have some more scab games and I hope they count. That will cause everyone to work their tails off besides the players.

The average players makes 1-2 million, their average tenure is 4 years. When you are set to make 6-8 million in 4 years and 25% of that is taken away with a strike, that is too much a price to pay for the majority. I know some, to maybe many, don't think that way, but the smart one's will eventually and there a lot more smart ones than not.

The NFL has done a nice job of controlling the players at the top of the food chain and the masses suffer because of it.

April 25, 201610 yr I think this will help the Patriots in the long run. Will be good for Belichik to get a look at Garapalo and Brady will be well rested for playoffs. Most starting QB's wish they could only play a 10-12 game schedule to be fresh when it counts. Would not surprise me to see the Patriots go 4-0 during TB's time out. I think they beat the Cowboys in a thrilling Super Bowl next season. Brady over Romo.
April 25, 201610 yr Ehh, I'm skeptical this holds up, but either way, not a big deal. Jimmy G will do just fine if necessary. Looking at their schedule, it looked like 3-1 to start the season with Brady, and will most likely be 3-1 if he's not there. UKMF, I hope you are right but I have a question... (1) why are you skeptical it will hold up? You think Brady/union will appeal? Also, has Jimmy G actually played in a regular season game yet? This may be good for the Pats in the long run in that they get to see him under fire but I would be nervous about him HAVING to play 4 games. Who will the back up be? If Jimmy G goes down, those few games could be really tough.

The NFL can hold its breath A LOT longer than the players. One thing the NFL has mastered is how to take advantage of EVERYONE it touches. Players, fans, cities, advertisers, etc...

Players, fans, cities, advertisers, etc... How long would owners go without TV Revenue? Granted they could hold out longer than most players but it would still hit owners right in the pocket. My understanding was that there was little push back from the players union on the subject of discipline last negotiation. At the end of the day the only people impacted are the players and teams that have either broken rules or ran afoul of the law. 90%+ of players will not be disciplined for anything other than a personal foul...so Goodell having the power to hammer law breakers, cheaters or those that don't cooperate won't impact many of the rank and file players. Goodell hasn't done a great job handing out punishment and I think the owners as much as the players will want to change his level of power during next CBA.
April 26, 201610 yr The majority of players aren't giving up money to get power away from goodell. The reason being that his power doesn't affect 99% of them. It's only the few idiots that are beating their wives and kids or breaking other laws that it affects.
