It's always been allowed. I'd be more worried about players going to other proffesional leagues than this becoming a trend.

Cal will still get one and doners.

What would make a fifth year of high school more attractive than a year of college?

The theory is so your not exposed. But I'm not buying high level athletes with tons of confidence shying away from a challenge.

I don't understand why more of them don't go to other pro leagues.

On a side note, Thon Maker is nowhere close to being an NBA player. I can't imagine anyone would draft him in the first round...but someone will.

Chad ford had him #20 on the big board. With the developmental league and the ability to stash it's not a huge risk at the end of the first.

NBA teams have finally figured out how to use the NBDL. It only took them 5 years. :lol2:

As to the intent of the original thread this will not affect one and dones at all. Kids want the colleges experience and they love being courted by the big name coaches. Brandon Jennings and Emmanuel Mudiay are two guys who went to play overseas on for a year. Had they had the grades they'd have gone to college too.

To be eligible for the NBA draft you have to be one year removed from high school. You could not play basketball for a year after high school and be eligible for the draft.

Talking about somebody who made a name off a mixtape. Couple dunks and some flashy handles made this dude a superstar thanks to Youtube. In reality, his game needs a lot of work. I remember people telling me this kid was going to be the next big thing, now I wonder if he will be the next Perry Jones III.

Because other pro leagues in Spain, Italy, Turkey, etc. have good, older players. If you're 18 and go to Spain, you get paid, but you might not get to play much because of the talent ahead of you. If you're 18 and go to Kentucky, you are already one of, if not the best player on the floor.

Mudiay got a cool $1M and playing time. Not a bad deal.

That is a 100% pro UK way of looking at it that's not entirely accurate

The down side to the way Mudiay went is he basically got zero exposure and was hidden overseas that entire time. In his case that was a good thing. In other cases it could hurt your value and potential for shoe $$$.
