April 6, 201610 yr It would be stupid for them to do so, but that hasn't seemed to stop them on a lot of things lately. With even a single team expanded, an 8-8 Atlanta Falcons team would have made the playoffs as a wild card. If you'd have expanded by two teams, the 7-9 St. Louis Rams would have made it, and the 8-8 Buffalo Bills would have made it in the AFC. In most years, a single additional team per conference is going to mean an 8-8 team goes, and in several years adding two teams per would mean a team with a losing record goes. They don't need it, and it would diminish the regular season product.
April 6, 201610 yr Posted this on reddit but... If they did the format like this I would be all for it Round 1 - Wild Card 1 seed - Bye 2 vs. 7 3 vs. 6 4 vs. 5 Round 2 - Divisional 1 vs. 4 2 vs. 3 Round 3 - Conference Championship 1 vs. 2 Round 4 - Super Bowl 1 vs. 1 Same amount of Football. More Playoff teams. The teams that get in at #7 are likely going to be 10-6 or 9-7, which are definitely deserving of the playoffs
April 6, 201610 yr Participation trophy mentality. I think it's more like a "we can make even more money" mentality

April 6, 201610 yr Nothing new here, the NFL has been talking about adding a 7th team to the playoffs for a couple of years. Either way is fine with me.
April 6, 201610 yr Participation trophy mentality. Yes, and they probably need to class all the divisions so everyone makes the playoffs.
