Congrats, Kenny! It's my opinion that Kenny Collopy will be a fantastic head coach and the Newcath mafia will love him, once they get over hating him. Super guy from a great family. I wish him nothing but the best of luck!

As NCC exits an era of dominant bigs expect Coach Collopy to really crank up the pace of play and intensity up on the hill. They did more pressing with him as an assistant than ever before and I only look for that to continue.

Congrats to coach Dawn on a brilliant career he is leaving the program in great standing. Congrats to Kenny who IMO will do very well and will add his own brand of basketball. NCC is in good hands now and in the future.

Logical choice. Congrats to both Coach Dawn and Coach Collopy. He has a great support staff around him and I only see success in his future. NewCath loses Weyer but they have a lot talent in the Junior and Soph classes. I would think they are #3 or #4 in the region next season behind Cooper and Covington Catholic.

Congrats to Kenny! He will do a fine job on the hill.

Long time Newport Central Catholic High School Basketball Coach Ron Dawn announced his resignation as the head coach of the Thoroughbreds.

 

Dawn, a 1974 graduate of Newport Catholic and standout basketball player, began his coaching career at NCC with the boys basketball program in 1980. He was named the NCC boys’ head coach in 1990. After a five year break to follow his son’s college basketball career, he resumed coaching duties at NCC. He was named the girls’ head coach in 2009, a post he held for four seasons. In 2013, Coach Dawn returned to the boys’ basketball program adding three more All “A” Classic State Titles to his list of successes.

 

This 2015-2016 season ended with a 9th Region Championship where his team made it to the semifinals in the KHSAA State Tournament.

 

Coach Dawn is the only coach in the state to win an All “A” State Championship in both boys and girls basketball. Additionally, he is the only 9th Region Coach to win a regional title for both the boys and girls. Coach Dawn retires with 495 career victories.
