My guess at the situation:

Coach Dawn is retiring. Kenny Collopy is succeeding him. It has been easily a quarter of a century since NCC hired a non-NCC person to coach either the boys or girls varsity. Heck, there's a chance it has never happened. With Coach Dawn three times, Coach Stoll, Coach Brannen, and Coach Detzel, there was not an open hiring process. I don't expect there to be one this time either with Kenny having as much experience as he does.

It's not just the now....it's would also affect his retirement. You don't want to be eating cheeseburgers and fries when you're retired and when could have been eating steak. While NewCath might be a good basketball job, I would think it makes zero sense financially for someone in Brad's position.

 

I agree with you. But with my old school (Holmes) refusing to get rid of Listerman as coach means Carr will have to wait another year for that to open. One year at NewCath would not be a bad opportunity while he waits for Holmes' administration to rescue our basketball program from the old Dayton High School mentality we are currently enduring with the superintendent, AD, etc.

This would be my guess as well.

I have no idea what this could be, but I woukd be absolutely floored if Kenny Collopy is not the next head coach whenever Mr. Dawn decides to step down.

NBA Hall of Famer and 1966 NewCath grad, Dave Cowens, returning to the "hill"......now that would be a major announcement.

Actually they are announcing the retirement of Ben Weyer's #44 and that once a year they will hold a "Ben Weyer Day."
