Teen Suspended For Filming Fight at Scott High School

Featured Replies

Kids are filming fights in elementary school in Kenton County. Hear it every day. Don't think any of them have been expelled.

The girl posted this on Social Media because 3 teachers just stood there and other teachers blocked stair wells and hallways so other kids wouldn't show up. The fight was a Senior and a Freshman the Freshman was being bullied and nobody did anything about it.

Did the video show the teachers doing this?

There are so many issues involved in schools that I have never even thought about.

The legal issue here is that you are protected in a school setting from having your picture, video, etc. unless you give consent to allow it. Parents sign that every year with their opening day packets. There are students that are for various reasons not needing to be seen by others. There truly are some students at risk from others seeing them.

If a student, teacher, school personnel, etc. put a picture or video on social media it could lead to something awful. Therefore, the district has to protect itself by doing whatever they can to respond.

We live in a very different time.

Reason #18,841 on why I'll send my future kids to private schools.

Does Scott High School also have a duty to rescue ordinance? The student might need to call Jackie Chiles.

So they can film and post it on social media and not get in trouble?

Where was Scott's resource officer during all of this? I thought they had one?

So I don't have to deal with ignorance like this. School wants to discipline them that's fine. The fact that they were suspended and put up for expulsion is pure lunacy.

According to the video Cat posted, the student says there are 3 teachers shown in the video who did not do anything. It's hard to tell from the video who are teachers and who are students.

Most of the private schools I know of, don't allow phones in the class or hallway during school hours.

Which in my opinion is how it should be.

Had that been the case here, we wouldn't even be having a discussion about this.

Correct. And if they still did this, they'd most likely face a reprimand (detention) and have their phone confiscated and the video would've been deleted. No need for expulsion talk or suspension.

Imagine that, another NKY school has an incident of bullying, someone(s) catch it on video, and the school has a problem with the video getting out so they are going to discipline the student that released the truth (video).

I guess this is better than demanding the students delete the video off their phones thus tampering with physical evidence.

This is just another example of a public school trying to cover up their own shortcomings.

Remember everyone, schools are government entities, they are inherently secret, and they don't want to share anything with the public, especially anything that shows their ineptitude.

Bingo.
