March 27, 201610 yr Your not going to get an argument from me about bad parenting and the change of parenting philosophy having a direct result . But I'm sorry as an adult I do hold adults to a higher standard than children. If you see minors fighting in school break it up.

But I'm sorry as an adult I do hold adults to a higher standard than children. If you see minors fighting in school break it up. Again, it's not always that easy, especially when your dealing with adult sized teenagers, especially if you are a female teacher. My wife used to teach in inner city Philadelphia, and while she can handle herself, there was one time where she was the only teacher nearby when a fight broke out...problem was she was 6 months pregnant with our daughter at the time. Or suppose you're an older teacher, nearing retirement, and just not physically able to do it. Teacher learn how to do lesson plans in college...I don't think combat skills are taught. Personally, I'd break the fight up. But I can understand teachers being hesitant, especially if the are on their own.

My dad was a 6'2" fit high school PE teacher and the football/basketball coach. He could break up fights---no problem--and broke up plenty. My mom was a 5'2" petite teacher---capable of breaking up her little first grader squabbles, but she would not have been capable of breaking up high school fights.
March 28, 201610 yr Do we not put School Resource Officers (law enforcement kind of...) in the schools now ? It's possible that one wasn't available for this situation, or was not near the situation, however, Scott High School is not that big, so..... No one has yet to put forth the Kenton County School District teacher protocol for fighting....so until we see what the teacher's are supposed to do, then we should reserve judgement that they didn't do what they are responsible for

Also in the story, 19 out of the 60 teachers at Scott have the Safety Crisis Management training and the story said this same training (of teachers) is in nearly every public school in KY. My point being, besides all the authorities involved talk a lot and say nothing, is there should be several teachers in every school that should be able to clearly articulate what the training says to do in a situation like the one captured on video. Anyone?

Anyone? Less than 1/3 have had the training, my first concern....I will assume it is not mandatory then. Wouldn't you think that Kenton County District counsel would deliver a prepared media statement at this point, based on the Safety Crisis Management training ? Unless, of course, we have turned over the rock that shows only 30% of the staff have had the training....

But to your point, I agree with you and it is exactly why I was critical of the Channel 5 Fluff Report. If you are going to put forth the effort Channel 5, at least ask the tough questions. "Where's Tricia Macke when you need her!?"
