How many D1 offers does he have? The two guards in question are both D1 guards. Goodin signed with Xavier (currently ranked 5th in the nation) and Sloan has multiple D1 offers and interests. Granted I have not seen Pig play but the other two are not your average guards.

Mason County should watch the Taylor County vs Murray High game to see how to defend Sloan and Goodin. Saw that game in Bowling Green. They shut down both guards completely and they have no player who can defend like Pig Williams. Think they had 10 and 11 points and about 10 turnovers. Don't think this game will be easy...it won't!

Taylor indeed should win...Lit, Cantrall, Maher, eye test, strength of schedule. But, Pig is still best defensive guard in Sweet Sixteen. Get back to refute after game is over. Before that, one is just being argumentative.

Tallest on the team is a 6'6" senior. You may see him only in the waning moments of the game. He has signed to play college football. Tallest starter is Rafferty at 6'4"

 

6'8 sophomore Dalton Perkins may get some big minutes in this one. 6'6 D. Williams and 6'5 Sweeney are 2 tallest starters.

Berry was athletic, but average at best as a basketball player. This year TC has the Gaines kid who can flat out ball, and the Miller kid whose basketball skills need to be fine-tuned but can body up on any player in the state - a solid defensive presence down low. I intentionally leave the Rafferty kid for TC out because, with all due respect, he is not a factor nor have I ever been impressed by his ability.

 

If Mason puts their best defender on Sloan so he can't shoot, and forces Quentin to do most of the work, TC will be in trouble.

Rafferty made some key plays during Taylor's big run in the 3rd quarter against Bardstown. If I remember correctly, he had a 3 and a big stickback, as well as the sweet oop pass to Gooding for the dunk to start the 2nd half. He was definitely a surprise after the first two games.

That's a fair assessment of Rafferty, I guess he can be an asset now and then. Again, not trying to disrespect the kid here, just calling it how I see it.

I don't think there's any matchup issues for Mason due to playing a zone.

 

Unless they get behind, I'm guessing biggs will be in a zone early and often.

The TC dribblers can get to the rim and finish or draw a foul.

 

If Mason can keep the score low and force TC to shoot a low % from outside, they got a chance.

Stay in zone as long as you can. Don't press, this gives Oliver and Gaines easy scoring opportunities. If you man them the whole game without a great TEAM defense; you won't beat Gooden and Sloan. IMO

I think MC will start out MTM on defense. It's what they primarily do. But Paris forced them out of it quickly and my guess is that Biggs won't stay in it long if he sees that it won't be effective. My guess is that Pig starts out on Goodin.

How tall/big are the starters for each team? grades?

Two great articles in this mornings LexHerald. One about Buddy Biggs and his great year after being terminated at Ashland. Gives you a clearer understanding of why his last year was so tough. 2nd article is about Taylor Co.'s Sloan and the numerous offers he has had as a junior.
