Bowling Green 61 Russell County 55 (4th Region Semifinals)

Featured Replies

Surely 50 red was ejected, right?

50 for Russell County was ejected. 13 for Bowling Green was ejected. 50 is knee deep in it from the jump. Jones (13) comes in from the right as a bit of a peacekeeper, but eventually gets knocked around. He clearly has a two handed shove at one point, but tough to say he threw a punch. The one that I thought had was 23 (Booker), who is the one who took the clear punch from 50. From our vantage point, it looked like he may have thrown a punch back, but from the video angle, he's almost completely blocked by 50.

Alright. I feel seriously bad for Kyran Jones. Wow. Hope this can be figured out.

It doesn't sound like they are going to appeal from what DG said in the press conference.

When is the last time an appeal worked?

Greenwood football won one this passed football season.

Greenwood got an ejection overturned in football this year. It happens some. In a day is probably pushing it.

What about a week? Could be big if they win tomorrow.

He's the 1st ejection on my list, and perhaps the only one -- tough to tell from the video.

Bowling Green will have an incredibly tough decision to make tomorrow. It is not out of the question that submitting the fight for review to the KHSAA could result in several other kids from BG being punished and or suspended for leaving the bench and for getting involved in the altercation (be that shoving or trying to separate players). While the officials ejected the complete wrong kid and Russell county's #50 clearly instigated the event, what you don't want to have happen is a laundry list of other kids receiving suspensions and or punishment in addition to Jones' ejection for a regional final that could send you to rupp. It was a poorly handled game from start to finish from the second region officials that seemed to have zero control throughout the course of the game. Russell County's game plan was to rough up, cheap shot, and play mind games with Bowling Green just to have a punchers chance to keep this one close. They were outsized, outmatched, our talented, and out coached - so alternative avenues were required to compete. Tinsley is known to coach and teach these tactics to his players, so hats off to them for executing. In my opinion, Bowling Green will not appeal the suspension in fear of other multiple ramifications that could come from a video review. It is truly sad that a team that has a real shot at a state title run is penalized by the actions and antics of another team and coach, but it is also Bowling Green's responsibility to turn the other cheek and not react to the bully tactics. Sigh.

Well said. And I think you are right. DG kind of alluded to this when he said they weren't going to appeal it. It's pretty sad because there is virtually no recourse for the losing team, but they can cause trouble for the other team to carry over.

13 white got a bum deal. I didn't see anything worthy of an ejection. Maybe 23 white - maybe.

Someone said 30 red was instigator. That's not true. 50 red was clearly the instigator.

I didn't see any players leaving the bench for BG. Kudos to the coaches for realizing quickly that they had to corral them.

BG should be thankful they have two straight games that they should be able to win even without Jones.
