Bowling Green 61 Russell County 55 (4th Region Semifinals)

Featured Replies

Now now, again, why sling mud on someone who's not involved? I've never seen someone so eager to throw another team under the bus. You did it in the Hoptown/BG thread and here you are doing it again in a separate thread.

:deadhorse:

Warren Central is in this tournament (well not anymore) and in the region, so they are pretty involved. For WKY to throw stones about a team having no home grown players when the best dynasty the 4th region has ever seen (WC) based their entire program on kids that didnt grow up in their system. Go on somewhere unless you would like to argue that my statement isnt valid.

Folks, don't let the TR&LL have control here. Let's just move on.

I wouldn't say ENTIRE program, but you don't see me getting on here calling you an absolutely liar either. BG, nor is really any other school (as we have covered several times) in the area, has clean hands when it comes to kids from out of district.

Again, you're beating a dead horse and bringing Warren Central into the conversation is 100% unnecessary to defend the accusation in this thread brought upon by someone who is not a Warren Central contingent.

Pretty funny statement given Warren Central ran the 4th region for over a decade with next to no home grown players whatsoever. Everyone loves to hate ol Bowling Green. And what about christian county and hoptown? Those kids trade schools like nba players. Tired argument used by moronic haters.

I was referring to the fact that Booker and Jones are not from Bowling Green, KY. At least Warren Central kept it in the city limits and at least the 8th district teams have players that have always been in the 8th district. Everyone knows the kids in Hopkinsville change schools like they change their socks and I hate it. All that said I wasn't trying to get this kind of a reaction. I just thought it was funny but obviously I ruffled some feathers. I'll step away now. :isurrender:

Warren central kept it in the city limits? What planet are you from? They had a transfer from Louisiana start for them last year and was second in scoring. The anderson brothers who won them their only state title were imports from out of state. #30 from Russell County last night played at Christian County 2 years ago and Warren Central last year. And as for Cristian County, a very good player by the name of Anthony Hickey came to them from Tennessee after his freshman year and won them a state title and Mr. Basketball. Again, refrain from making silly/unfounded comments if you don't want to be called out.

I didn't know Kyran Jones wasn't from BG. When did he get there? I'm glad he came. Helluva player.

Him and his brother Trey Jones came from Adair County after Kyran's eighth grade year.

Nice! I like it.

Ryan Anderson was a big piece of the state champion team, but Jeremy was just a freshman. It's a stretch to include him in that as a cornerstone. Hampton and Jordan are the only two guys I can think of since that showed up from somewhere outside the county borders. I'm not saying there definitely weren't any, but none spring to mind. Neither Hampton or Jordan led them to the promised land. Jordan, in particular, was more trouble than he was worth. If memory serves, he found himself in street clothes or nailed to the bench in both their postseason losses to BG that year, for reasons that didn't have anything to do with gameplanning. Tracy was a worthwhile addition.

The point stands that none of us (Warren Central fans) have said a blessed thing about anything that is happening at BG in these threads. As Jack pointed out, you have gone out of your way to take shots at Central when these people don't have a thing to do with us, so it's a little strange and irritating to see. Every school in this county has both gained and lost players either to other schools here or schools elsewhere, so it's not as if any of us have the high ground. But just recognize that people outside these borders see what is happening, and success breeds contempt. As people perceive Bowling Green basketball on the rise into a true power in the state, the contempt grows.

BTW, Warren Central's dynasty was BUILT on homegrown guys. Guys like Devin Sona, Antwaun Barber, Terkell Boards, Deion Holts, Javen Roberson, Ryan Cummings, Wes Durrant, Brandon Kirk, etc., they took Central to the region finals in 2001 and laid the foundation. Every one of those guys was at Moss. That Ryan Anderson showed up and helped as a sophomore in 2002 was a plus, but by no means a requirement.

Ah, all fun and games. Just nice to kick a former power while they're down because they did more than their fair share of pounding teams inside and outside of this region for a long, long time. I did compliment Central several times in my posts stating that they had an incredible run and unprecedented region and state success (see, i've done it twice here). But, choose to look past that if you will - I feel I have been rather fair and honest. My only beef was WC seemed to always get a pass when it came to the whole "transfer" situation, and BG is seen as some sort of cheating villain all of the sudden. Oh well.

I've seen those as well - they're appreciated. It's just weird to go out of your way on the others.

Plenty of people knocked Central for transfers over the years. I don't think anyone gained amnesia as to where Fant and Shanklin came from. I vividly recall the chants of "traitor, traitor, should've been a Raider" at George. People constantly accused Riley of recruiting. Don't let time fade your memories, they said a lot about Central.

As I said, success breeds contempt. For years, Bowling Green was a power in football, and people understood that they were just unassailable. But while BG was good at other sports, they did not dominate (aside from swimming). The girls basketball program was fairly mediocre. Soccer had an equal in Greenwood in both genders. And so on. Fast forward to now, and Bowling Green is good to dominant in basically every sport. They won state in football. They may win state in boys basketball and won region in girls basketball, and in each they have been at the top of the region in most years recently (or in the girls case at least co-favorites). With the decimation of Greenwood soccer, Bowling Green has begun crushing the surrounding teams in both genders, and added another state title for the boys two years ago. Softball may not have broken through, but they had been consistently good until taking a step back. Baseball has been consistently good, though for some reason has gone through a region drought. The point is, they're all very good to dominant. And so the glare has become brighter. People notice when a Thomas Booker drops in to boost the boys that much more. They notice when a Keely Morrow comes from Franklin and elevates the team to a region title. It comes with the territory. One of my favorite Purple alums would just tell you to embrace the black hat and wear it with pride. He'd probably tell people who are upset to deal with it, because we're Bowling Green and what are you going to do about it?

Im glad you joined in dragonfire. A continual voice of reason and fairness.

I didn't know about the kids that Warren Central got from outside of Bowling Green but your information isn't accurate with Anthony Hickey. You may not know his dad took the girls head coach job Anthony's freshman year and is still the girls head coach. His dad you also may not know played for Christian County.

Chane Behanan was a pretty good get too wasn't he? Hell, the guy went on win the West Region MVP and was a NCAA Champion!
