Folks this is only the 6th time in 8th Region history that a small school has won the 8th: Gallatin County 1997, Walton Verona 2011 and 2012, and Trimble County 1976, 1981, and now 2016. I know that scon36 and TB&G are really enjoying this moment.

Thank you, FBD. I am a proud TCHS alum and after having taught at this school for 19 years, my heart will always have a blue and gold imprint. Those senior girls are special to me, the last that I taught at TCHS.

Mustang, the truth is that it can be over for anyone on any given night in the regional, especially if you underestimate your opponent, which seems to be the case here, due to the amount of shock everyone besides the Lady Raiders and their fan base had.

 

Trimble County has been playing great basketball as of late. Their two juniors made the All Region team and scored their 1000th point in the same game this season. Their phenom of a freshman guard has improved leaps and bounds and can hit the three and remain poised under pressure. Their two senior starters can score big when a defense focuses on the juniors or the juniors get in foul trouble. Their senior reserve, who had been injured prior to the All A, was finding her stride and stamina again. Also, we've seen our team give other teams nightmares on defense, especially as of late. And then there is the shot blocking.

 

At the beginning of the season, Coach Stewart bought the team t-shirts that listed every year that followed 1981, the last year the Lady Raiders won the region. That's thirty five years. The listed ended with 2016 in the same color as 1981, because Coach Stewart told them that there would not be a 36th year without a regional title. She maintained that mantra through every loss and every victory. We all believed her, not blindly, but because we knew what our girls were capable of.

 

So no...the Trimble County players, coaches, and fans did not go to this game "expecting" it to be our last. Life has no guarantees, but we knew that we could win this.

 

"She believed that she could...so she did."

 

There is another thing that I have to put out there that perhaps was not a physical factor in the game, but I know there is truth to it.

 

The Trimble County players always, no matter what, win or lose, no matter how bad it hurts, choose to humble themselves before God after a game and give Him thanks in prayer. This is not a mechanical thing that causes win or losses, but it is a choice from the heart to just keep things in perspective after a game.

 

That being said, I can't help but throw in here what I KNOW is truth.

 

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

 

Yes, when a people choose to honor Him, and humble themselves before Him, He is faithful to honor them back at various times and raise them up. Perhaps our nation should take note.

 

Win or lose the next game, it doesn't matter at all. The Trimble ladies have already proven that their choice to honor God does not depend on winning.

I argued in person with someone on here that I thought Trimble was the best matchup against SK. Lol. Also if you saw the region last year Trimble had a very good Anderson Co beat until a unfortunate play with 1 second left. So if you saw that you knew Trimble was capable. There length, height and skill provides major problems for teams that don't have it. I think they will give the Camels fits in the state. Congrats to all the Trimble players, coaches and fans.

If that's the case, I'm a little disappointed that they didn't participate in the prayer after the game. That's just the way I was brought up.

On paper, the Lady Raiders were coming off a 10 game win streak, and had held their opponents to fewer points than any of the eight teams in the tournament (200 less points than SK, even having played one more game). But, as they say, the game is played on the hardwood and not on paper.

Oh no doubt I'm sure...like I said I just wanted to make the statement that the team and coaching staff did not underestimate their opponent. I personally would rather have faced Walton, only because SK seemed to have their number so to speak this year. First of all, love your logo.. ROLL TIDE! The only thing I take exception to is the comment about SK underestimating their opponent. Many of the players have been in this position before, both in school ball and AAU, and this coaching staff is too good to allow that to happen. When a team is the reigning champion and picked to repeat since the end of last season, there is a lot of pressure to live up those expectations. plus when one looked at this matchup on paper, it didn't look like it would be much of a game. You had the reigning champs coming into this game riding a 12 game winning streak, playing lights out pressure defense and clicking on every cylinder. They had played the fewest number of games than any team in the tournament, and scored and averaged more points than any of the other 7 teams. BUT as many have stated in this forum, that's why they play the games. As far as the team goes, they did not underestimate their opponent.

 

Now Dixie, let me remind you what you said when I questioned why SK plays so few teams in the region during the regular season.

 

And I quote "rather than fill the schedule with games against regional opponents, some that are on the "2nd tier", they choose to try to fill it with the best competition the state had to offer."

 

So was Trimble one of those "2nd tier" 8th region teams not worth scheduling a game against? Is that not the definition of underestimating?

 

Perhaps Trimble was on the schedule and it got cancelled due to snow? If so, then I'm totally off base. If not, fogive me for not buying what you're trying to sell.

First of all I'm not trying to sell anything. And as for the comments about scheduling, I was just stating what I was told. I still think that its a good concept. As far as whether Trimble would be a 2nd tier team, in my mind no obviously because of their record and what they have accomplished. But honestly, last night was the first time in my life that I have ever seen TC play. So I would not have had an opinion on them. Not sure if you are trying to bait me into saying who I would classify as "2nd tier" but I don't have to. All you have to do is look at the Region standings, or really any other region standings and make that judgement for yourself. They don't change that much from year to year.

Not to mention I have no input on who they schedule or what their feelings are about certain teams

Two more years of Niece should make up for this loss for the remaining players on the roster, but I always hate to see players' careers end.

Most teams have kids from 3 or 4 counties??? If they do, I will delete my post.
