February 10, 201610 yr I'd be okay with this tax regardless of the prices at the pump as they stand now. We are in debt in this country and that keeps growing day by day and we don't have the funds to pay for everything. Either that means they have to raise taxes in existing places or.... find a new revenue source like this one. Why not cut spending on things we dont need to be spending funds on.
February 10, 201610 yr Why not cut spending on things we dont need to be spending funds on. Because that would make sense!!! Got to keep those pork barrels filled up for the donors!
February 10, 201610 yr Over $2.5 Billion per year in improper SNAP funds are paid out yearly some to undeserving people and some for things like fast food, beer and condoms. So there is a decent start. Here are a few more places...http://posey.house.gov/wasteful-spending/
February 10, 201610 yr Why not cut spending on things we dont need to be spending funds on. Because what you think is waste someone else thinks is vital. The stupid waste we all could agree on is miniscule in the overall scheme of things. Like throwing pennies in a barrel. Until we can agree on the huge things, like Social Security, you cannot cut the deficit fast enough to make a difference. Cutting spending sounds great until YOU are affected.
February 10, 201610 yr The US economy is headed toward a crisis unless both Parties come to their senses, both need to realize that taxes are going to have to increase and entitlements have to decrease. If not, the deficit will cause the house of cards to fall.

But if we make real efforts to stop the cheats it will make it harder to get SNAP. Think of the children..
February 10, 201610 yr So raise taxes for a slush fund already misused. Remember the billions Obama put us in debt that was supposedly for new infrastructure and to put people to work. Instead we hung signs on existing projects and pumped funds into projects of friends. I will say I could possibly be for this tax even though it goes against my core for the sense of compromise. One condition we set a ceiling on the price of gas at the pump when the added tax would be eliminated. I will also add to the post above about trying to cut spending being pointless , that in and of itself is the problem. If we had real budget hawks that are scene in the business world we could trim enough fat today to build 30 Brent Spence Bridges tomorrow.
February 10, 201610 yr I say tax imported oil at double the rate of domestic oil. A tariff on OPEC ? That would have way to many negative consequences.
February 10, 201610 yr Why not cut spending on things we dont need to be spending funds on. I agree but that won't fix our debt issues. It's going to take a combination of the two to get where we need to be.
February 10, 201610 yr A tariff on OPEC ? That would have way to many negative consequences. Like encouraging OPEC (more specifically the House of Saud) to kill the petro-dollar and kill our economy? It seems Iran is already wanting to provide payback for the deal in that area. Exclusive: Iran wants euro payment for new and outstanding oil sales - source | Reuters "Iran wants to recover tens of billions of dollars it is owed by India and other buyers of its oil in euros and is billing new crude sales in euros, too, looking to reduce its dependence on the U.S. dollar following last month's sanctions relief." Reduce their dependance of the Federal Reserve's US Dollar!?!? How dare they.

Here are a few more places...Wasteful Spending List | Congressman Bill Posey :: Representing the 8th District of Florida I read an article where Maine required every able bodied person who did not have dependents to either work, enter training, or do community service in order to obtain food stamps. Cut their expenditures or people, can't remember which, by 80% in 3 months! There are ways to cut spending while still delivering help to those who truly need it. The desire is not there as it would cost votes. Can't have that.

February 10, 201610 yr I read somewhere that Kentucky was going to start a similar requirement. I belive it's in place now..maybe since the beginning of the year?
February 10, 201610 yr That's great news. Hopefully people take advantage of training available to help them get work.
