February 10, 201610 yr Author I can remember Bill Clinton putting in a similar work for welfare plan back in the 1990s. What happened to that? I just assumed it was still in place. Why would you stop doing that when it was working back then?
February 10, 201610 yr What this country needs is a law requiring recipients of corporate welfare to pay some taxation to Uncle Sam. Far more $$ is lost through misuse of corporate welfare vs. misuse of food stamps.
February 10, 201610 yr Sorry, meant to say that instead of Obama's plan state legislators should get ahead of the issue and raise the state tax on gasoline and control the funding of their road needs. States can raise state gasoline taxes on their own and that is better than being beholding to the Federal monster. I got that part, I was more talking about this... Instead of having contractors build roads to last 20 years, as in Europe. They last only 2. Then, the politications can give away the mainteance contracts to repair them every 2 or 3 years to their donors. Sigh. The vast majority of roads receive little to no attention. Maybe some major highways have work every 2-3 years, but most roads see no attention well beyond when they should. Even then, the notion politicians award contracts is false. Maybe at one time, but bidding laws and processes make that near impossible. People have no concept of how little money is devoted towards roads. Personally, I think the bigger issue going forward is maintenance of underground utilities. Sewer and water needs, especially. Talk about receiving no funding. If the road is bumpy, we complain. You don't get any water or way to dispose of waste, you have a crisis.
February 10, 201610 yr What this country needs is a law requiring recipients of corporate welfare to pay some taxation to Uncle Sam. Far more $$ is lost through misuse of corporate welfare vs. misuse of food stamps. Typical socialist Bernie talking point. Why can't both be done? Everyone needs some skin in the game be it money or having to do something to get the benefits you are receiving from the government.
February 10, 201610 yr Typical socialist Bernie talking point. Why can't both be done? The Republican attack on food-stamp fraud is 99 percent symbolic. Similar to the anti-abortion laws the Republicans are now pushing in Frankfort. Changes very little but makes the right believe they're doing God's work. All about perception instead of reality. Now is the right time to raise taxes at the pump to set aside $$ for road and bridge improvements. Do it on a sliding scale so if gas prices rise dramatically, the tax goes down accordingly.

Like I said, both can be done. You are sadly misinformed as to welfare fraud in this country. Billions are wasted each year in welfare fraud. Be it SNAP abusers or doctors over billing. We need to reign that in. Why are you against that? Afraid the Left might lose votes?.

If you want to drug-test food-stamp recipients, then we also need to drug-test corporate welfare recipients. Start with the parent company of Fox News, which pays zero in federal taxes.
February 10, 201610 yr If you want to drug-test food-stamp recipients, then we also need to drug-test corporate welfare recipients. Start with the parent company of Fox News, which pays zero in federal taxes. Not sure where the drug testing argument came from as we were talking about jobs, training and community service. I could care less about drug testing recipients but if you want to drug test all welfare recipients I'm good with that, just figure out a way to drug test a corporation and get back to me. Since I'm sure you're consistent you will agree that we need to drug test EVERYONE in the country who pays zero federal income taxes, including those who don't pay any tax yet get tax refunds?
February 10, 201610 yr If you want to drug-test food-stamp recipients, then we also need to drug-test corporate welfare recipients. Start with the parent company of Fox News, which pays zero in federal taxes. I always love when a term like corporate welfare is thrown around. The difference between what you are angry about with corporations is they legally use tax loop holes on the books. If you want to revamp the tax code by lowering corporate tax rate and eliminating most loopholes I agree. We could also then start the plan of Corporate forgiveness Rand Paul has promoted and bring billions back home. The problem again is what I listed above is legal and fraud on welfare is illegal. We should have a budget hawk who goes after fraud and can also revamp the tax code in a way that makes much more sense. Raising taxes any higher on corporations will just drive more funds and jobs overseas. If you don't understand that then we don't need to have this discussion.

Start with the parent company of Fox News, which pays zero in federal taxes. Ahh, the fall back position for the Leftie. I never said anything about drug testing. What's wrong with requiring people to volunteer, get a part time job or take free training when receiving their public assistance?
February 10, 201610 yr Ahh, the fall back position for the Leftie. I never said anything about drug testing. What's wrong with requiring people to volunteer, get a part time job or take free training when receiving their public assistance? We need to do same for the millionaire CEOs. If you want corporate welfare, then you have to spend X hours a month volunteering at a homeless shelter.

Sounds like you're a supporter of corporate inversion. Food-stamp fraud is nickel-and-dime compared to what the behometh corporations are doing to rip off the government.
February 10, 201610 yr Sounds like you're a supporter of corporate inversion. Food-stamp fraud is nickel-and-dime compared to what the behometh corporations are doing to rip off the government. Again what you describe is the agreed upon tax code by our government. Corporations aren't ripping anyone off. They are doing the same thing as you or I do every April 15th. The fear mongering is unbecoming.
February 10, 201610 yr We need to do same for the millionaire CEOs. If you want corporate welfare, then you have to spend X hours a month volunteering at a homeless shelter. One of the three requirements is to have a job. Millionaire CEO's have jobs. Unless again you want everyone who has a job and receives assistance to also spend X hours a month volunteering at a homeless shelter?
February 10, 201610 yr You also can't describe something as welfare when you allow them to keep more of their own money. The money is not the governments, the government has no money. Only the money we as the people aloof them to have.
