Congrats to the Campbell County Freshman boys for advancing to the 10th region finals by defeating Mason County 62-34 at Campbell County. Camels took an early lead and never looked back as they dominated the Royals in all facets of the game.

Big congrats to Frosh Head Coach Brett White for continuing to lead the Camels through an undefeated season as they are currently 19-0.

Great Season and Good Luck in the finals on Thursday.

I am a bit biased, but this CC class will no doubt be favored to win the region both their junior and senior seasons.

Have to love the unbridled exuberance for the Camel freshmen.

They are undoubtedly the creme dela creme of 10th Region Freshmen teams at the moment. But to anoint them regional favorites two and three years hence, could be right on, or might be a stretch.

No one knows better than the current Camels freshmen coach how freshmen dynasties sometimes fizzle, and other teams become more equal as water runs under the bridge.

Using our (Brossart) freshmen as examples, I'm sure that no one in the Camels camp foresee the 2019 Mustangs to be a threat, especially after dominating them 50-21 in this year's crosstown, but our guys have a lot of growing (physically) up to do. Stir in Bryan Duffy who played strictly JV this year, Derek McCormick who didn't play a rep this year, a couple of really nice incoming forwards, and sophomore Bryce Donnelly who will be a senior in 2018 along with sharp-shooter Zach Hamberg and big-man Aaron Bell along with two years under the tutelage of Team Code and I'm wondering how many points you will be willing to give me in 2018 and 2019.

One thing for sure, our guys will get better - much better. Our guys will all still be there as well. And this is just us. Certainly there are other teams in the region that have untapped potential to catch the 2016 Freshmen Camels down the road.

Maybe none of us will and the Camels will cruise thorough regional competition for the foreseeable future. It just seems to be a bit premature to place such lofty expectations on a group who may or may not be playing their best basketball right now, tabbing them as prohibitive favorites two years down the road. Enjoy them while you've got what they are right now, and let 2018 and 2019 take care of itself. Placing such early expectations on a group of freshmen can lead to major disappointment down the road.

U

Mason County plays very few (if any) freshman on that team.

Is there no 10,11, or 12 graders to play JV and varsity at Mason County?

Would'nt Duffy playing with Brossart freshmen make them all better. They would have three more years to learn how to foul & flop!
