Been there several times for a wide array of events and it's just not all that like some on here portray it to be. Needs major upgrades to catch up with society. It's almost 100 yrs old for god sakes.

 

I'm just greatful for technology these days and radio broadcasters popping up all over the region so I don't have to go watch another game down there. The nightmare of parking and seating is over. All I have to do is click a link and listen.

 

Evidently you need something. I've never seen someone who just enjoys complaining about one place. Yes it is old. It was built when every town and four way stop had a school building and gym. As for parking and seating, no one ever asked for you to show up, that was your choice.

 

I'm sure the athletic department thanks you for you coming to a game/event and paying the admission price, it may have helped purchase a child's jersey or gym shoes.

Wow, poor rick with all that negativity towards a Augusta. I for one love that gym. It's a true peace of basketball history, with all the modernization of new gymnasiums I for one think the true Spirit of basketball has been lost, it's a unique place to play and one of the best shooting places I've ever played at, although when I played there years and years ago there was no air-conditioning man that place would get hot, was always great atmosphere. Some of my most memorable games where played in that (little low-tech gymnasium)

We actually agree on something, glad I'm not the only one who's tired of hearing it.

I've seen a lot of teams come in to St Pats little gym.... That's a hard gym for any road team to play in!!

Probably Brossart and Augusta, but I don't think any of them are terribly difficult.

I've been to Brossart's gym a lot, seems like things are going downhill student fan base wise.

The love of the Augusta gym that we refer to as the Panther's Den just comes from the pride we have for everything orange and black. It's a throwback that you just don't see everyday and thankfully it has stood the test of time. I'm so glad we still have it and haven't moved on to one of those cookie cutter gyms that you see everywhere else. I've heard from a number of coaches of teams on our schedules over the years how they wanted to come coach at least one game there. I'm sure the same would be said about Bracken County's old gym. That place was a classic! Loved going there for that old school feel. We didn't have much success there back in my day but still loved making the trip. The Igloo is nice but ask ones who know about the old gym, they'll tell you.

 

And for those tired of hearing about our cozy little gym, I'm sorry you'll just have to pass over threads you might think it'll show up in. It's not going anywhere unless George Clooney throws a bunch of money our way and we can build a new one. No wait, we'll just build another parking lot and a practice gym!

Remember this thread isn't "places you like watching a game' or "favorite gyms"...it's "toughest places to play"

 

1. Augusta- smaller gym. crowd is on top of you, and unless you're in orange and black, they aren't cheering for you.

2. Brossart- the atmosphere isn't the same as Augusta, but just seems like visiting teams struggle there.
