I couldn't agree more. I'm a fan of a rule that would allow a kid 1 transfer free of charge.

The ALL A is not a khsaa sanctioned event....Would this be a topic if Cordia had lost in the 2nd or 3rd round of tourney.......Many small public schools feel yhis exact way about private schools in general..........It is what it is......Cordia cannot play in khsaa sanctioned events (as far as I am aware)........3 of the players mentioned above were at Cordia as 8th graders (2 not). Still dont hate the playa....hate the game.

Who cares about being "home grown" kids, the kids are all the same age, and all in High school. Just congratulate Cordia on the Championship. Tell the kids there playing against, dont get mad get better!

Teams can schedule them in regular season games. I meant that they are not elgibles for khsaa sanctioned post season tourneys. The ALL A is not sanctioned by khsaa and therefore is just basic regular season play as far as they are concerned.

They're banned from the post season until next year. They are permitted to play a full schedule this year just no district or regional (KHSAA Sanctioned post season).

Among the penalties imposed by the Commissioner are:

 

Suspension of the Cordia HS boys’ basketball team from playing scrimmages or contests during the 2014-15 regular and postseason, as well as the 2016 postseason. During its suspension, the school would be permitted to conduct regular season practices from October 15 until the first allowable day for district tournament play. Included in this penalty is a stipulation that representatives of the boys’ basketball team with eligibility remaining may transfer to specific KHSAA member schools without penalty;

I will always consider this Cordia championship accompanied by an asterisk.

 

Considering the blatant disregard for regs and any attempt at a measure of decent common courtesy last year, I have trouble accepting this group as a bunch of homegrown boys from the Hazard area, who started at Cordia as freshmen, and have been developed over the past couple of years into a championship caliber basketball team. If that is the case, I not only stand corrected but humbly apologize and will wear a Cordia "A" State Champs shirt for the next week, but I am confident that neither is the case.

 

Answer me YES or No to the names of the five starters for Cordia today - Ajanee Chisolm, Zeke Biallas, Kareem McDonald, Oumar Keita, and Anthony Nelson. Do these boys have roots in the Hazard, Kentucky area and did they start as freshmen at Cordia High School???

If the answer is No - then the teams that lost to the Lions this week were taken out by a coach and team who have seized on an opportunity of finding a private school with student housing, in which to gain athletic (basketball) advantage.

 

Curse me or hate on me, but just answer the question.

 

They may not have KY roots, but then every kid who came from out of state would need to have their team's success noted with an asterisk. It becomes a slippery slope when you look at it that way. Is it that all the kids or the vast majority have to be out of state in order to put the asterisk by their team's name or just a single player? I just do not see how it is any different from what goes on many places where kids end up in a program via ways that do not ever come to light or are at least not proven. If the Cordia kids meet eligibility requirements of the KHSAA then that is the important part to me. If there are kids who should not be eligible and they are part of the success then I would have a problem. The allegations of recruiting seem to ring a familiar tune that goes on rampantly in the schools of KHSAA so why single out Cordia?

Who exactly are the "bad guys?". Their teenage players? Does anyone know about where they came from, circumstances, hardships, etc?

 

I didn't really care who won today, but part of me laughs that Cordia winning brings out all this sanctimonious reaction. Nothing at all is said if they lose to NCC last night.

 

High school basketball, or sports in general, isn't always about a morality play. Sometimes in life, the deck is stacked against you and you have to overcome it. If you are in business, the competition may get to the same point as you using different resources or different circumstances that you don't have the same access to. When it comes to the All-A situation, small independents (i.e. Murray/Danville), smaller rural county schools (Owen/Morgan) smaller parochial schools (NCC, Brossart), all of them have hurdles to overcome to get to get to this level.

 

In this case, Cordia was a deserving winner, but this wasnt like a team of unbeatable future pro mercenaries. Several teams could have beaten Cordia on a given night in this tournament. Among the losing semifinalists, I still think NewCath probably wins a majority of games against them. Owen probably doesn't match up with them on the perimeter very well to win a majority, but the Rebels could beat them on a given night.

 

Murray was good enough to beat the so called "bad guys", but they didnt play as well today as they did the three previous nights.

 

Cordia scheduled within the framework of the KHSAA sanctions and the All-A classic allowed them to participate in their event. Agree with their decision or not, those are the people you should direct your Cordia issue toward.

All they've been through? Like they got picked on? "All they've been through" was brought on by them. I'm not a fan of the KHSAA rules. But they're the rules. They broke them.

 

Never said or inferred any of that.

 

Cordia broke the rules and were punished...no reason to continue to hate on them.

 

No one will ever admit why there is so much hate on Cordia and many many others move kids in and out every year and everyone is fine with it. When schools have kids with the money and means to commute playing that live in different cities, counties or even states...Why throw rocks at Cordia for having housing for poor kids?
