January 27, 201610 yr A co-worker asked me the other day if I had watched any of the miniseries "War and Peace". Said that I hadn't, and that I probably haven't watched a miniseries in quite awhile. But, it sparked a conversation about some of the best miniseries that we've seen. Some that were discussed included: Lonesome Dove North and South The Thorn Birds The Winds of War and of course, Roots But, I'd have to say my favorite of all time is/was Centennial. Absolutely loved it! And the cast that they assembled at that time, wow. Not a bunch of no-names. So, what's your favorite miniseries?
January 27, 201610 yr Is Band of Brother considered a mini-series? Because if so, the conversation starts and ends with that one.
January 27, 201610 yr Can't pick between Lonesome Dove and Band of Brothers. Will note that Lonesome Dove has Diane Lane in it, who would totally fall in love with me if we ever met.
January 28, 201610 yr I totally loved Winds of War. I was a bit too young to totally appreciate Roots for what it was.
January 28, 201610 yr The Wire hands down, if it can be considered a miniseries.Great pick. But I don't think it would qualify.
January 28, 201610 yr Of the ones mentioned I really like Band of Brothers and Lonesome Dove. However, Planet Earth gets my vote rather easily. The best nature footage ever.
January 28, 201610 yr 1. Centennial. Robert Conrad played an intriguing character in that one. Clay Basket was beautiful. And Detroit Lions great, Alex Karras, played a German immigrant who was a tough old bird. Lots of stars scattered throughout the cast. They actually filmed part of that not far from where I grew up. I even had opportunity to watch some of the filming. 2. The Holocaust. It made quite an impact on me. I was just a teenager. Both of these miniseries were in 1978.
January 28, 201610 yr The Stand That's what I was here for. Honorable mention, and it has a very poor rep, but I always enjoyed the Shining miniseries. It was much more true to the King story.

I think it was some of the scenes that were supposed to be based in old St. Louis.
