I will vote for the first candidate that comes out and has the courage to admit hat he/she is agnostic/atheist( we've had plenty I'm sure that just haven't been forthcoming), regardless of whether the person is D or R. Of course, they won't win but they get my vote.

I think they'd both be nightmares for our country in their own respective ways. So, would I be better off choosing neither? I've openly admitted that I've voted for the lesser of the evils before, sadly, but these 2 may be neck and neck. What if there is no "lesser" as an option?

 

Never. There have been times that I've not voted in particular races or written in something else but I've never not voted.

I will ALWAYS vote, even if it's third party. It's one of the only ways we can make any positive (subjective, I know) changes to our current government, even if the affect is minor.

If a third party gets enough votes it will likely cause a shift in the parties most closely affiliated with those beliefs. That in and of itself is worth it at this point. Although Libertarians are kind of a hybrid anyway. They have some things in common with both Republicans and Democrats.

You accomplish that same by staying home and saying "Had I voted I would have voted for...."

In KY how is that really different than any candidate?

 

I'd argue a single vote for a 3rd party in KY has a better chance of making a difference than one for either of the two major parties.

I doubt if he runs if Hillary is the nominee but if Bloomberg ran as an Independent and assuming Hillary is the Democratic nominee, would he cost Hillary Florida ?

There will be more on the ballot than just the presidential election. Vote in the other races. The only time I have not voted in a race is when I was not knowledgeable enough about the candidates. In that situation I abstained and trusted the electorate to make the right choice. I will vote in the presidential election regardless of how poor the choices may be.

If enough people vote 3rd party often enough I believe eventually the two parties will have to take notice of the voters again. Don't think I'll live to see it though.

Some math to back up my claim. In KY all electoral votes go to the candidate who receives the most. IN 2012, for Obama to have received the most votes and change the outcome of KY's election 219,416 more votes would have been needed.

 

In KY 2% of the vote from a previous election is needed to qualify a party as a political organization. At this stage that party would have instant ballot-access. 10% is needed to qualify them as a political party and thus that party is eligible to host a primary. Ballot-access is a major hindrance to 3rd party candidates and not having to go through that process would help pave the way for a viable 3rd party.

 

Gary Johnson needed 18,881 votes to get to 2% and 162,658 votes to get to 10%...

I'm about there. I have always voted because Mr. Kauffenbuger taught me well, the it was my Civic duty. But considering I don't even find my fellow citizens willing to work together to better society for each other, what good is voting for someone even further removed from the thought m. I've already decide that whomever the POTUS is, I'll still have the same personal challenges to overcome. No one in office has gotten, or is getting much done. I'm down for taking things into my own hands.

My suggestion is to do one of two things. First, write in someone you can tolerate, especially if it is some you feel others to also write in. It that other candidate gets enough votes, the two parties will take notice and have to consider the views of the write in candidate to some degree for re-election purposes. Second, look at the two presidential candidates you cannot stand and consider what type of federal judges he or she would appoint, especially to the Supreme Court. Pick the candidate who would appoint judges closest to your views and hold your nose while voting and puke in the parking lot.

I've actually waited for the Koch brothers to get behind Gary Johnson and they Libertarian party. Since I know at least one brother is a libertarian. Would make next election fun.

I don't care if others vote or not but I don't plan on ever missing an election, especially presidential election, as long as I can get out of my bed.

 

With that said, I pray it's not Trump & Hilary because I don't want to have to vote for Trump but would in that scenario.
