The quote doesn't surprise me a bit. The notion that he wouldn't lose any votes is.

It is outlandish that he said that or believes that. That said, Mrs Clinton when asked about Ambassador Stevens could have said, "If he dies, he dies" and the majority of her supporters would still be supporting her.
