Feel the Bern! Is Bernie taking a page out of the Trump handbook?

Featured Replies

I don't suspect many BGPers spent their Sunday evening watching the left winger debate, but those of you who did: is it just me or did Bernie seem more combative and aggressive?

He seems angry like Trump. While Hillary is trying the if you like Obama you like me, Bernie is in "break the wheel" mode.

I like Bernie. I will vote for Bernie. Bernie is always angry. He probably wakes up angry in the morning. Soggy corn flakes probably makes him a powderkeg. At least his hair didn't look as angry last night as it usually does.

I watched a little bit of it. Sounded to me like a guy who is gaining in the polls and trying to strike now while the iron is hot. Hillary sounded a bit more combative as well like she is feeling the heat.

I watched the last half. Bernie before this debate reminded me of the kid wrestling 2 wait classes up to have a entry in that weight class for the team.

Call it the Trump effect if you want, but Bernie imo clearly won last night.

I'm wondering after last night if Joe might have second thoughts?

I watched a bit .. O'malley seemed OK .. Somehow Hillary makes ancient Bernie Sanders come off as fresh . She was talking in political soundbites regardless of what the question was . Honestly she appears to be a terrible candidate , the worst of the three , and folks - Thats saying something when a socialist is you eating your lunch .

I think the Iowa caucus and the next two primaries could be very interesting.

I speculated same last night. Hillary still has 25-point national lead over Bernie, but Clinton losses in both Iowa and N.H. might alter the dynamic. All eyes on Trump these days, but Sanders lurks in the background.

Bernie's lunch is prune juice and/or Milk of Magnesia. PACs and big corporations seem to keep my man in a perpetual state of indigestion and/or constipation. I love that old curmudgeon!!!

It is kind of amazing. Trump carries 33 percent of Republicans and he is the talk. Bernie is carrying 34 percent of democrats. .

The difference is in what that percentage constitutes. While Sanders might have 34 percent, nearly all of the other 66 belongs to Clinton.

I just felt this was the first time Bernie stood up and threw some punches.

It may be to late at this point, but Iowa and New Hampshire could be interesting.

I laughed out loud when Hillary basically called Sanders a liar on his past statement about not raising middle class taxes that he has since changed his tune on.

If Hillary is calling you a liar, that's pretty bad.

I tend to think Sanders and Trump are drawing from the same well in certain regards. Obviously, the ideologies and desires of their supporters are starkly different, but I sense there's large swatch of the population who are angry and feel alienated by their representatives in government who they believe haven't been representing them but the more powerful instead.

True.

Still remarkable that these two on total ends of the political spectrum are in possession of nearly half of the vote in the nation.

Well put Habib.

I watched most of the debate, I thought Bernie sounded pretty good and made a lot of sense. However, socialism scares me to death.
