Attendance throughout jcps is really really bad. Going to be up to principals on if absent players can play or not. Might affect some games in the 6th and 7th regions tonight.

I thought the rule was that if you were not at school, you could not play in a sporting event that night. Am I wrong, or are they making an exception tonight because of the unusual circumstances?

Seems like a decent day to make an exception. There are a TON of kids not in school all over the county today.

I've heard it may affect some over the weekend as well.

There was a threat called in for all JCPS schools. Becoming quite trendy these days. I hope who ever did it is caught and prosecuted.

My son reported last night that he thought it was too unsafe for him to go to school today, but he got past his fears when I told him that if he didn't go to school today he could not play in tonight's game.

Many times, if they cancel school due to a threat of violence, they will also cancel after school activities. "Usually" that comes with a statement to parents that if they want to keep their kids @ home that it will be excused absence. That is way above my pay grade of any position I have ever held in a school district, so I wont say what they will decide to do.

 

School districts set up guidelines on attendance of students to participate in after school activities. KHSAA requires that any student-athlete be a full-time student at a school. Bylaws 4/5 & 14 would most closely offer insight on this, but none of the (3) mention anything about number of hours you have to be at school to participate that evening.

 

The district that I was in wanted 1/2 day of "seat time" in order to participate. If you think about it, that could be a doctor appointment, dentist appointment, visitation or funeral, etc.........

Holy cow, that's a lot of empty seats! Average attendance in any school on a regular day is always north of 92-95%

An excused absence: Dr note, funeral etc. will allow you to play in JCPS
