HammerTime Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 This year... John Schuhmann @johnschuhmann
ColonelCrazy Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 LBJ is the only name on that list that is slightly surprising, and that's only because he shoots such a high % overall.
bugatti Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 If I had a nickel for every time I've heard how LeBron is going to "develop a jumper like Jordan did" I would have a lot of nickels. Dude is not a good shooter, never was, and never will be. I think last year during the playoffs he recorded the lowest ever (or at least lowest in the playoffs) 3 point percentage for a player attempting 100 3 point FGs. He is usually good for one airball or missile clank off the backboard each game. People forget when the Heat came back to beat the Spurs in Game 6 3 years ago, he made a 3 pointer down the stretch. What people forget is, the only reason he was wide open for the shot was because the previous one he missed so badly, not touching any rim, it came back to him; then he missed one that would be kicked out to Ray Allen and :irked: I digress.
bugatti Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Other thing about LeBron is how poor of a FT shooter he has always been. He was around 60% a good chunk of this season before catching fire of late and climbing to 71%
gchs_uk9 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Other thing about LeBron is how poor of a FT shooter he has always been. He was around 60% a good chunk of this season before catching fire of late and climbing to 71% Career 74% free throw shooter. Only once under 70% for his career (69.8% in 2006-07).
bugatti Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Career 74% free throw shooter. Only once under 70% for his career (69.8% in 2006-07). For a superstar caliber player in the NBA that lives at a FT line, that is not very good. I would expect someone of his ilk to be in the 80%-85% range. That is the equivalent of shooting 60% in college. Then again, he isn't a great shooter - just always told he would be - so maybe my standards are too high.
gchs_uk9 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 ...so maybe my standards are too high. I think they are! :lol2: But I understand what you are saying.
frankdracman23 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 In defense of LeBron and some others.......they are the ones who have to take a "bad" shot often with the shot clock going off. Now some of it can be LeBron's own doing.......he will purposely take the clock all the way down with a lead in the 4th quarter and then take a bad shot.....but it is still a factor in most games.
NEERFAN Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 If I had a nickel for every time I've heard how LeBron is going to "develop a jumper like Jordan did" I would have a lot of nickels. I would take Jordan every day in a game of horse. When it comes down to stats they are equal percentage wise, LeBron is a fraction better from distance and Jordan is a far superior shooter from the stripe. I do agree that no excuse for him not to be 80% from the stripe.
SnottieDrippen Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 There's no reason any player in the NBA should be below 80%. Ball is quite literally life for them. As much as I love the NBA, that's the one thing that drives me crazy, particularly with LeBron. I guess you don't become the best player in the world spending all your time practicing free throws, otherwise I'd be a legend, but at some point that has to become the facet of your game you spend time on in the off season.
PurplePride92 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Not surprised to see Russell on the list but in my steadfast defense for him his jumper is beginning to fall with more consistency now. The first 10-15 games of the season he was putrid shooting the ball.
BigVMan23 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I have never thought LB was a good shooter but had never seen/looked for any stats that backed that observation up. I guess this does it.
TexasRanger Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 LBJ still relies on his god given athletic ability. He keeps his fg % and ppg avg by getting to the rim. I'm hoping as he ages he takes working on his jumper and free throws more serious. If not he may fall faster and harder than Kobe has.
spindoc Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Wig is awful from the field, unless he's playing the Cavs. :lol2:
