The number of Americans who fatally overdosed on weed remains steady...

Those are National Guard helicopters and from what I've been told they use those flight hours as part of yearly training that would be needed any ways. But all they are burning extra is Fuel, National Guard and KSP already have helicopters. In the grand scheme fuel doesn't cost much, plus that is a 3 or 4 week focus each summer on pot...most of the rest of the time is spent on other things.

So 3 or 4 weeks that could be used on something else ? Sounds good to me.

Well get the law changed and they won't have to worry about it. But unlike the USAG most law enforcement can't decide to ignore the law...as long as it's illegal it is there job to police it and other drugs.

Many times during those 3 or 4 wasted weeks they also find that the people growing massive pot crops are involved in selling other drugs...so it's not a waste of time.

If it's legalized fine, I don't agree. But I won't rant and rave about it either.

Taco Bell, Xbox games, Pink Floyd, etc...

They'll be mad when corporations get involved in producing it. Then they will go to Whole Foods to get their organic pot. You haven't seen anything irritating until the hipster stoners start to gain traction.

I would like to see more stastics vs conjecture. I have tried MJ twice in my life (don't care for it personally), and prefer to have a cocktail. I KNOW that DUI is dangerous, because it is clearly documented. I have never seen it clearly documented that MJ impairs people enough to kill while driving vs DUI.

Not trying to put you on the defensive, but can you clearly defend that MJ use, in itself has proven to show that it causes a significant driving risk?

Drugs and Human Performance FACT SHEETS - Cannabis / Marijuana ( D 9 -Tetrahydrocannabinol, THC)

Effects: Pharmacological effects of marijuana vary with dose, route of administration, experience of user, vulnerability to psychoactive effects, and setting of use.

Psychological: At recreational doses, effects include relaxation, euphoria, relaxed inhibitions, sense of well-being, disorientation, altered time and space perception, lack of concentration, impaired learning and memory, alterations in thought formation and expression, drowsiness, sedation, mood changes such as panic reactions and paranoia, and a more vivid sense of taste, sight, smell, and hearing. Stronger doses intensify reactions and may cause fluctuating emotions, flights of fragmentary thoughts with disturbed associations, a dulling of attention despite an illusion of heightened insight, image distortion, and psychosis.

Effects on Driving: The drug manufacturer suggests that patients receiving treatment with Marinol® should be specifically warned not to drive until it is established that they are able to tolerate the drug and perform such tasks safely. Epidemiology data from road traffic arrests and fatalities indicate that after alcohol, marijuana is the most frequently detected psychoactive substance among driving populations. Marijuana has been shown to impair performance on driving simulator tasks and on open and closed driving courses for up to approximately 3 hours. Decreased car handling performance, increased reaction times, impaired time and distance estimation, inability to maintain headway, lateral travel, subjective sleepiness, motor incoordination, and impaired sustained vigilance have all been reported. Some drivers may actually be able to improve performance for brief periods by overcompensating for self-perceived impairment. The greater the demands placed on the driver, however, the more critical the likely impairment. Marijuana may particularly impair monotonous and prolonged driving. Decision times to evaluate situations and determine appropriate responses increase. Mixing alcohol and marijuana may dramatically produce effects greater than either drug on its own.

Let's not kid ourselves here. Getting high and driving isn't a safe practice.

However, I agree with PP92 that the people who will do that post-legalization are already doing it now for the most part.

But if legalizing it leads to more people smoking it (like it has in Colorado) then it seems to reason more of them will be driving also.

I question the legitimacy of those numbers also. Marijuana is not the type of drug that large groups of people just start doing just because it has been legalized.

I think some people who did it in their youth who quit due to it being illegal and for work purposes may try it again .

I don't think someone who has never done it will try it now because it's legal.

Either way it doesn't bug me.

If you look at the link it's like use went from around 10% of the population to a little over 12% while a 22% increase it's still not that many total compared to the population. It's not that 22% of the population suddenly started smoking weed, 22% more than before.

I think just like there are some (yes I know that's probably a low number but there are some) people that never drank until they were legally old enough there are some that if it was made legal would try it and some would continue to use it.

Yeah I'm not sure why anyone would argue that it is safe. I don't care if it's legalized or not, but it definitely is not safe to smoke and drive.

I think a lot more people will try it out when it's legal, especially once the stigma against it starts to wear down more after legalization.

The purpose of the scheduling was to classify the drugs for their use/usefulness. Unless they changed it recently, medical marijuana is still Sched 1

But by definition, Schedule 1 drugs have no accepted medical use, so that doesn't make sense, unless I am missing something.

If you allow people to be treated with Marijuana the medical communities pill racket will take a big hit.

I would like to see the stats from Colorado on overall alcohol sales before and after legalization.

Any way you cut it legalizing Marijuana comes down to money. Money lost for other medical remedies, money lost for beer/liquor companies, money lost for tobacco companies, and like in Ohio the government doesn't want to legalize Marijuana until they can find a way to monopolize the profits through taxation and corporate favoritism.

Again, I would much rather see the Federal and State Governments decriminalize Marijuana and let the chips fall where they may. Then after an adjustment period each state can decide if they want to lightly regulate the sale of Marijuana.

Finally, Medical Marijuana should be available in all 50 states immediately; especially for children in need, elderly in need, and suffering soldiers that fought for our freedom.

For what it's worth there is already a synthetic Marijuana rx drug available called marinol that is a C3.

Where does alcohol currently fit in with medical use?

Bourbon Hot Toddies (sp ?) put over the counter medicine to shame.

I have no idea...
