The number of Americans who fatally overdosed on weed remains steady...

If you allow people to be treated with Marijuana the medical communities pill racket will take a big hit.

I would like to see the stats from Colorado on overall alcohol sales before and after legalization.

Any way you cut it legalizing Marijuana comes down to money. Money lost for other medical remedies, money lost for beer/liquor companies, money lost for tobacco companies, and like in Ohio the government doesn't want to legalize Marijuana until they can find a way to monopolize the profits through taxation and corporate favoritism.

Again, I would much rather see the Federal and State Governments decriminalize Marijuana and let the chips fall where they may. Then after an adjustment period each state can decide if they want to lightly regulate the sale of Marijuana.

Finally, Medical Marijuana should be available in all 50 states immediately; especially for children in need, elderly in need, and suffering soldiers that fought for our freedom.

So, would you say that it is purely political and money-driven? If something has medical value, how can it be kept as a Schedule 1 drug?

It is a drug used for cancer patients, the generic name is Dronabinol, which is a synthetic tetrahydrocannibinoid and intended to decrease nausea and stimulate appetite. It can also be prescribed for glaucoma as well.

I never knew.

Either way, it obviously doesn't help kids with seizures as well as some other forms of THC and I am sure it has other "shortcomings" too.

Just me spitballing but back in the day I assume it was the government telling everyone how it was going to be when something wasn't fully understood and/or couldn't be controlled but today I think it has a lot more to do with money and politics. In other words, we all know legal Marijuana is coming but not until Uncle Sam figures out exactly how he wants to do it.

Marijuana is illegal because it was a drug perceived (rightfully or not) to be used primarily by blacks and Mexicans. It's stayed illegal because of big pharm and alcohol lobbyist.

That would certainly fall under control.

I did read an article recently that suggested exactly what you are saying as one reason:

Why Is Marijuana A Schedule I Drug?

The commission's approach to drug policy didn’t resonate with many Americans or politicians at that time, who were far more concerned about the potential societal ills that could strike if marijuana use was left unfettered -- an attitude that Cindrich says was partially based in racism. “At that time, the majority of marijuana users were black and Hispanic so it was a way for the U.S. government to keep tabs on the minorities that were living and working in the country,” he says.

I wasn't going to bring it up, but that had a lot to do with it being legislated in the Marijuana Act of 37 which didn't make it outright illegal, just defacto illegal.

Reefer Madness came out just a year before in 1936 and scared some people to death.

Which was heavily influenced by the "public service" films of the FBN and was one of the most grossly inaccurate portrayals of marijuana usage ever put on film.

Not really. I never said that MJ did not slow response time, and any pharmaceutical company with an attorney would write a similar warning about Marinol.

I just do not believe that MJ will cause the type of accidents that alcohol and opiates have been PROVEN to cause.

Well if that info from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration isn't enough for you, then I think you are choosing not to see it.

If as you admit, it causes the problems listed in my post that would seem to be pretty conclusive that driving "Stoned" isn't safe and can lead to the same types of accidents that drunk drivers cause.

I guess we can agree to disagree.

My mom used to pop a hole in the marinol pill and drain the liquid onto a rolling paper. She'd let it dry for an hour or two and roll herself a joint with the paper. She did live for over 3 years with a stage 4, 3-6 month diagnosis with only one round of chemo before they declared it inoperable. She tried a TON of meds and was in Hospice care for almost 2 years. Only thing that worked was weed.

Unfortunately the 2 years of Hospice care had her taking 4 80mg Oxycontin every 4 hours in the final months. Once the state realized that was insane, they cut her off from the Oxy prescription and she dies in two months.

I know what legal and prescribed substance killed her and what controlled substance managed her pain and appetite responsibly... :idunno:

I guess we can agree to disagree.

So you think it's safe to smoke a joint, then jump in a semi and start trucking?

If it didn't smell like skunkweed it might be easier to tolerate.

My thoughts, exactly!
