The number of Americans who fatally overdosed on weed remains steady...

Featured Replies

Let's not act like there are no negative side affects to weed. For every functional adult you know who still smokes , I could also point to someone who is a typical "stoner"who has lost a brain cell or two.

I've never seen any research that shows marijuana use has long-term effects on the adult brain. I've seen research that shows it can be detrimental for brain development in adolescents, which is why I think it should be kept away from them.

If you mean someone who is "addicted" to it and it negatively affects their life I could see that, but I wouldn't consider that type of dependence any different than someone who is "addicted" to video games or facebook or something. I don't believe you can develop a chemical dependence to it like you can heroin, cocaine, or even alcohol.

There isn't a chemical dependency proven. There is no doubt in my mind a mental or behavioral addiction.

I have friends who swear the only way they can sleep is to smoke before bed. If they don't have it they can't sleep. That came from years of smoking it through habit.

Like I said I'm all for the legalization. If it goes on the ballot tomorrow I'm voting for it. I voted for it in Ohio just a few weeks ago.

I just have to much real life experience with it and people I know friends and family using it. I don't care what study comes out from a pro legalization group or a group that wants it illegal. Both groups come out with studies that support their position .

I just know real life instances of seeing someone so fried off a bong hit they couldn't move off the couch or someone who needed weed to function everyday because it was part of their routine.

My point of the matter is the argument to prove it has no real bad affect is a dumb stance to make. Just say it should be legal because it's no worse than anything else legal now and an adult should decide for themselves .

Not a fan of legalization. I've seen too many who have ended up as the stereotypical stoner after years of smoking. True, I've known many who have ruined their lives with alcohol, but of the guys I hung with back when, the drinking crowd are all still alive, while a half dozen of the hard core stoners who moved on to other, more serious drugs, are now dead from drug use. No exaggeration.

I understand your point but an adult should have the right to ruin their own life in a free country.

I won't argue that point. But that said, to that end, should we stop distributing Narcan in our communities?

I wouldn't go that far . But I'm a lot less sensitive on this issue and a believer in social darwinism.

Correct. But marijuana shouldn't be a controlled substance either as it is no worse than alcohol. I could argue that it's the lesser evil of the two.

I could go on and on about it, but I'd rather not. I do want to say that the term "controlled substance" the government uses to classify illicit drugs is a bit hilarious. What exactly are they controlling? If they are controlling heroin use, they sure as hell aren't doing a very good job of it.

I don't get paid to make those decisions so you're preaching to the wrong person :lol2:

And my point is there's a lot of scaremongering used to keep it illegal, like you can get addicted to it or can turn into a bum if you use it when there's not any evidence other than "I know a guy." There's no reason to concede it's merely "no worse" than other intoxicants when it's quite a bit less harmful, e.g. the OP.

O I agree that there is scare tactics going on . I've said that on this site a lot . My point was the pro legalization side can take it to the opposite extreme as well. The tide is already turning on the issue no reason to do that anymore.

What will pot heads talk about when it's finally legal?

DUI as we all know is huge problem in this country and takes many innocent lives each year.

Adding stoned drivers to buzzed drivers is a win win, right?

Marijuana use in Colorado jumped 22% after legalization, so you have to figure more than a few of them are driving around stoned.

I would like to see more stastics vs conjecture. I have tried MJ twice in my life (don't care for it personally), and prefer to have a cocktail. I KNOW that DUI is dangerous, because it is clearly documented. I have never seen it clearly documented that MJ impairs people enough to kill while driving vs DUI.

Not trying to put you on the defensive, but can you clearly defend that MJ use, in itself has proven to show that it causes a significant driving risk?

Are you saying that mj doesn't impact reaction time, judgment, alertness and other factors involved with driving safely?

Taco Bell, Xbox games, Pink Floyd, etc...

So if it's not dangerous, as everyone has already been aware, exactly why are so many against the legalization of it??

It's obvious, obesity.

There is no credible argument for weed to be illegal while alcohol is legal.
