December 21, 201510 yr Over the course of 162 game season, Bruce's career averages are: .248 Average, .319 OBP, 30 HR & 92 RBI. He's considered a plus defender and he's under contract for 1 year at $12.5 million. People might disagree on Bruce would yield in return, but to say that Bruce is untradeable is ignorant. Over the last 3 years his numbers are, BA: .235 OBP: 301 HR: 25 and the most important stat SO: 160. Considering he doesn't play 162 games, he is striking out more than once a game. Nobody wants that out of someone making 12.5 million. You could bring a rookie up and get similar numbers. His only impressive number is the HR's. Dan Uggla could still hit you 25 home runs a year. Don't get me wrong I love Jay Bruce and I want nothing more than to see him succeed, but what has he shown to you that makes you want him on your team?
December 22, 201510 yr Bruce no longer has the trade value that he did. His last 2 seasons at the plate have been pretty bad and he's regressed to an average right fielder with a good arm. I don't think any contending team would view him as a middle of the order hitter unless he regains the form of his mid 20's. He certainly no longer looks like the potential MVP that many were predicting him to be. That being said, someone will have an injury and need a corner infielder and the Reds will be able to get a prospect out of him. If not, and his numbers don't improve, they don't have to pick up his option after 2016 anyway. He's pretty much a poor man's Pat Burrell (without the walks) at this point. December 22, 201510 yr Bottom line is Bruce's current value is lower than his potential value if he puts up decent #s in the 1st half and some GM is willing to take a chance that he can help down the stretch. If he continues to crap the bed and miss every pitch by 3 feet, his contract goes away and so does he. I think Reds "hold & hope" with Bruce.

That would go a long way to explaining how he went from an above average defensive player to a below average defensive player. Like I said, he's basically a poor man's Pat Burrell at this point. The Reds would be better off to hold him to see if he can bounce back to improve his value.
