Will ANYONE move up to 6A?

Featured Replies

Honestly? I believe for the challenge. Dale and most HHS people I know don't want easy, they want to earn it. It would be more of a challenge to play up, and thus I think in the proposed system, it would be appealing.

Wouldn't they already be in a class with Boyle, LexCath, CovCath, etc.? Have at it I guess, I just don't see the point. I don't think anyone will consider a 4A title to be watered-down, given that competition.

I agree. Moving from 3A to 4A in the old system would be crazy, however, moving from 4A to 5A in the new system would not be suicide. I'd love to see them and CCH move up with Dixie

If you add more NKY teams to 5A, there would have to be 2 districts. It's not a smart move for HHS or CCH...

Then why wouldn't Dixie Heights jump at the chance to play in 6A.

Don't they want to earn it?

John Hardin will be 5A, bu tif they're able to maintain the success they had last year, they should consider it. The area is growing as well, so they may qualify for 6A in the near future.

I was speaking of HHS, the question was about HHS, but If you want to know what I think Dixie will do and why I will say this. We will go and play whoever the KHSAA says we should. I don't look for us to play up. 5A, 6A or the present 4A. We will play the hand we are dealt and make the most of it. I think we can be competitive on any level.

Even if you had a team that was stacked and you thought your team would win the 6A title if they played in that division, it would make more sense to schedule X, T, and/or H during the regular season in preparation for the 5A or 4A playoffs. If you win a state title and you beat the team that won the 6A title you would have a legitimate claim to be the best team in the state. If you lose to the big 3 during the regular season you would still have your state title.

It would be even more unlikely that a team would choose to play up if they had to do it for more than one year. While you might have a team capable of beating the Big 3 in a particular year, it's extremely unlikely that you would have 2 or 3 teams in a row. If you could play up for just one year it's much more likely a coach with both the talent and the ego would take the chance.

My guess, and its just a guess, is that Highlands will stay in 4A as long as CovCath is there. If Highlands was to be moved down to 3A, they would opt to move up to 4A to stay with CovCath. While beating Dixie is fun, we can continue to do that during the non district games and get just as much satisfaction, thank you:banana: . I make no bones about admitting that to play in the 6A class would be extremely tough for the Birds in most years. I do think that in some years when we have exceptional talent that we could make a deep run and maybe win it all, but I'm a realist and know those years wouldn't be that frequent. The numbers disadvantage week in and week out of the playoffs could take quite a toll on Highlands because of its small size. After we played Colerain, X and DeSales last year in 3 out of 4 consequtive weeks, we were banged up pretty bad. I'm sure it will be the same this year with Elder, S and DeSales again in 3 of 4 consequtive weeks, but we are deeper and more talented this year, so it shouldn't be as bad. For all you big schools thumping your chests, remember that Highlands is close to being a 3A school under the 6 class system as it is.

I think your dead on LN, and any school that is going to be a different division will probably have similar thoughts about their prospects of moving up a class.

No one will move up, why would they. Everyone can talk about earning the title until they are blue in the face but when it comes down to it a title is a title. The 6A class will be T or X every year, 5A will be Male's to lose, and 4A will be the most competive.

I was under the impression that under the 6A evenly divided proposal Male would be 6A.

I couldn't agree more.

Although with a quick look at 5A, it might be a smart move... :sssh:

But isn't that a bit of a double standard? That's why I raised the question.

Highlands playing up would mean that they were earning a title rather then having it handed to them (as you stated for the reasoning behind Highlands playing up) wouldn't the same thing apply to Dixie if they don't choose to play up?
