Under the six class system, should Beechwood move up to 2A?

Featured Replies

I think Bellevue and Ludlow are praying that Beechwood moves up to 2A considering the makeup of that District

I think you will see a young Mayfield team this year, not alot of senior talent but they should be pretty good in a couple of years, I would be shocked if this years team could make a run at a title but the Cards odds should greatly increase after that with a solid group comming up

Beechwood's prospective new district rivals are emblematic of one of the real problems with six classes. Even with Mayfield and Beechwood in Class A, there will be some bad football played down there.

I suppose Beechwood is due for a win against the Cardinals, given their sparkling 0-2 record against them.

Actually, Mayfield-Beechwood could be a regular occurrence in the semifinals, thanks to some strange geography. Makes you wonder if Lexington Christian and/or Pikeville has an in with the KHSAA. ;)

Rub it in!

I still believe Beechwood was the better team in 95.

I do, too ... I've always maintained that Mayfield beat a better team that day. Still one of the most exciting games I've ever seen.
I was just going by the way the Mayfield team played in the 1A Championship Game last December . What ever you say you can't deny their level of play then . If the core of that team remains lets hope then that they have recovered and that the coaches can reinstill the Mayfield winning tradition and have a great season this year .

I see what you mean--but keep in mind--your team was a GREAT team.

Also--Mayfield has been to AT LEAST the state semi finals for like 50 years in a row. That is the sign of a great program--even if people think that they haven't played the best competition (Personally--I don't think that is the case).

And to this point--why would they need to reinstill the "Mayfield winning tradition"? If I remember correctly--they beat Bardstown in the semis--and Bardstown was the #1 team in the state at the time.

I just think that you sound a little too arrogant--considering the fact that there is a lot of talk about how NCC is a state power in class A--with 1 state championship in class A. The last time I checked--Mayfield has at least 2 in A (and a whole boat load in AA).

Rub it in!

Grrrrrr!

I still recall showing up that day and my expectation was for us to beat Beechwood by a boatload, man oh man, I think most Cards fans were shocked at how good Beechwood was but we regrouped and hung on. I still say the Cards came in with the wrong mentaility of thinking ok here we are in 1A now and we are from big bad AA, no one from 1A is gonna touch us. Of course I also expected that we would win the tilte in 1A just about every year and that certainly has not been the case

If the class breakdown we have now is accurate Beechwood and Mayfield would be heavy favorites every year to play in the 1A title game. For Beechwood, add to that if they stay in 1A their district games would be:

Bracken County

Bishop Brossart

Ludlow

Walton-Verona

Dayton

Bellevue

I don't know any other way to put it, that is an ugly district schedule from Beechwood's point of view. However, if you move up to 2A your district would include natural rival NCC, Newport, and Holy Cross. And, 2A would be very competitive for Beechwood making a title once every five years a realistic goal instead of winning half of all the titles.

Anyone?

Isn't Brossart bigger than Holy Cross?

CLASS 1A

District-1-1- Ballard Memorial, Crittenden County, Fulton City, Fulton County, Mayfield, Russellville

District-1-2- Beth Haven, Bethlehem, Caverna, Evangel Christian, Holy Cross (Louisville), Kentucky Country Day

District-1-3- Beechwood, Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow

District-1-4- Bracken County, Eminence, Frankfort, Gallatin County, Trimble County

District-1-5- Fairview, Lexington Christian, Nicholas County, Paris, Raceland

District-1-6- Berea, Campbellsville, Lynn Camp, Williamsburg

District-1-7- Cumberland, Evarts, Harlan, Hazard, Jenkins, Pineville

District-1-8- Allen Central, Betsy Layne, Paintsville, Phelps, Pikeville, South Floyd

Okay then, which district OTHER THAN the one with the Northern Ky. schools do you think it would make the most sense to put with schools from Western Ky.?

Maybe the one with RACELAND in it? (next door to West Virginia)

Maybe the one with LYNN CAMP in it? (only 45 minutes west of Virginia line)

Or perhaps the one with Cumberland in it? (extreme Southeast corner of the state).

Back to the point of the thread though...I personally believe Beechwood (and Mayfield too, for that matter) should stay in 1A.

Don't know, but for sure LCA and Pikeville are not whining like some others.:sssh:

Integrity?

How about New Cath moving up and joining Highlands in 3A?

What a great district rivalry that would be.

The Birds would own NCC almost every year if that happened......Coach Schneider would not do that in a million years........:thumb:

There is certainly no reason for them to.

Besides, who's whining, billyrayjoebob? Why would Mayfield fans whine about Beechwood? Heck, they play Danville almost every year in the semifinals as it is.

You insist on misinterpreting some posters' criticism of the new format for kicks, I suppose. Get over yourself.

Did you catch the wink there, CoachJ?

Actually, my complaint is more with the six-class format than anything else and the geographical issues it can cause, like a third-round game against a district with no school less than a three-hour drive from all but one team in the other.

Nevertheless, I can see why the eastern Kentucky teams would love the proposed new Class A setup.

Your posts come across as whining...I don't insist on anything, quit supposing...

And it's obvious why the western Kentucky teams hate it.
