I attended the JC game last night and was at work at 8 am EST this morning in Logan, WV. The change in schedule forced a lot of people to not attend due to having to be at work today. It is what it is though, no complaints because the schedule was out of our hands and both teams faced the same circumstances.

The problem with WKU is it doesn't fit the bill for any of the standards for the overwhelming majority of state finals nationally. As a matter of fact, the only argument I really hear in favor is it is a "quaint stadium with a good environment." Throughout America, state championships are played at:

1. Premier venue in the state. (X) Louisville and Lexington are head & shoulders more premier venues.

2. Centrally located. (X) - Not even the same time zone as majority of the state. Major travel inconvenience for EKY & NKY.

3. Historic venue (X) Can't think of any that would really fit this mold in the state.

 

The fact now there is NO guarantee for date consistency, I see no way the KHSAA can continue games at WKU and hold any credibility for serving it's overall association. For those who love, "The KHSAA is a business," argument, by definition it is an association with KY high schools. For any team, students, parents, fanbases, etc. to get home at 3-4 am or later on a Monday morning following a championship game is completely outrageous. I hope the higher ups take a long look at this and make proper adjustments.

Also....... Nobody complains when this happens in March with basketball(Boys and Girls) and they start games at Noon on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and have games that start at 8-8:30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays that end around 10-10:30 and then the team and players have to do interviews and eat. By the time they get on buses to leave Rupp Arena it is easily 11:15ish. And yet, no one complains then.

 

Do they get on the buses and drive back home? Believe the KHSAA foots the bill for rooms correct?

Can you really call Louisville and the NKY areas "towns"? Those are metropolitan areas are they not? It's actually more of a shame they don't win all 6 titles every season isn't it?

 

Ask the people of BGP is it more impressive for a town/county of 30K with 2 high schools to have 17 combined state titles or for cities of Louisville/Cincy suburbs that have 100K+ people to have more titles spread amongst 20+ high schools?

Games were way toooooo late on Sunday night.

 

Should have played at least 2 games Friday.

 

2 games Thursday

2 games Friday night

2 games Saturday

The KHSAA could not play any games at WKU on Friday because of Conference USA rules. CUSA pretty much had control of the stadium 24 hours before kickoff, which would be from 11 a.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Nah, I was having fun too. Hell, I'm from Bowling Green.

 

I do know that Danville is the only place in KY I have heard called TitleTown.

This is the attitude I would have had if would have been in the same situation. Had the BG game been at 5pm on Saturday I'd have drove down to the game and drove straight to work from the game as I had to be in at 11:45pm.

Actually, it was the first time I've seen the explanation that CUSA requires control of the stadium 24 hours prior to kickoff. Thank you for that. If it was explained in an earlier thread, that would explain it as I'm just a trial member checking this site out and I've not read through all of them.

A few observations

 

1) No private school winners. how long has it been since that happened or has it ever happened.

 

2) No NKy champions. How often has that happened.

 

3)Pike Co and Warren Co took home 4 of the 6 titles.. Which one would you call TitleTown.

 

4) not any of the 6 games were won by single digits. Does this signify too many classes.

 

5) Should the Semi finals be seeded to insure the best 2 teams make the finals.

 

6 is not too many. The khsaa needs to seed the teams, to eliminate the games that are being played in the earlier in the playoffs that have two teams that would be playing in the state championship. There is no reason that Trinity and Male should be playing in the third round.
