No. The KHSAA does not foot the bill for rooms. The schools do if they choose to go that route.

 

I was wrong. The KHSAA does reimburse schools for a certain number of rooms(3-4) but it isn't much. If you choose not to get any rooms then that is the choice of the school.

 

I think each school handles their situations differently. I know that the boosters at Boyle County took on a lot of the financial burdens of Boyle County's trip to the Sweet 16 last season.

Actually, it was the first time I've seen the explanation that CUSA requires control of the stadium 24 hours prior to kickoff. Thank you for that. If it was explained in an earlier thread, that would explain it as I'm just a trial member checking this site out and I've not read through all of them.

No, the KHSAA pays to house the varsity team and coaches. The winners and losers of the late games on Wednesday and Thursday have their rooms paid for. Always my understanding that a losing team has their rooms paid for the night of their loss and if they stay longer then the schools pays the difference.

Okay. Cool. I was told they covered some of the rooms but not all of the rooms for Boyle County. That could be wrong. Boyle County played on Thursday, went up Wednesday and stayed there through Sunday after losing Saturday evening. The boosters covered a majority of the meals and I know the school took on some expenses as well.

First, to touch on the VERY last point you made. Few complain then because they are leaving RUPP. At worst, generally speaking, about a 3 hour drive home for most of them. That's due to location.

 

To the main gist of the conversation, my biggest issue was really this: WHY did they not have the 1A game on Friday night? Heck, they easily could have had 2 games Friday and still allowed WKU and whoever they played plenty of time for access to the field during the day Friday AND get it cleared in time for the noon game Saturday.

 

While we stayed the night on Thursday and drove back Friday, I do know quite a few who drove back Thursday night after he game due to work commitments, and also some not able to pay the $139.00 a night (some were cheaper but booked) to just get a few hours sleep.

 

Just absolutely no way you can convince me that the logistics could not have worked by having at least the 1A game Friday. It would have been preferable to have 1A and 2A Friday, which would have allowed for 5 and 6A on Saturday with 3 and 4A on Sunday at earlier start times.

 

Media has to have the venue for set-up starting day before event. Cameras, control truck, power pack trucks - at least two, cable feeds, scissor platforms, workers all over. Friday was never option for the HS games.

"B) STATE FINALS

1) The Association will finance the final game in each class.

Expenses for lodging and meals and an allowance for team travel will be paid to each participating school. The squad for expense reimbursement purposes shall be limited to fifty-nine (59) persons, including the principal, coaches, team members, cheerleaders, cheer sponsor and other personnel.

2) Schools failing to stay in the motel/hotel assigned by the Association shall forfeit the lodging allowance. Schools within forty (40) one-way miles will not be provided a lodging allowance, but will be considered commuting teams. Commuting teams shall be paid an allowance in accordance with pre-tournament instructions."

Since 1992, there have been only 2 schools not named Trinity, Male, ST X, in 6A, 4A before realignment in 2006-2007, that have won state championships, 1996 Nelson County, 2013 Scott County. Ridiculous. I know this has been address ad-nauseum, but this needs to be looked at by the KHSAA in order to level the playing field. Can you imagine New England, Denver, and Dallas winning 17 of the last 19 Super Bowls., there would be outrage. That is why there is a system on the professional level, in order to create a more competitive environment.

Plus, Male has shown that a public school can run with the privates so that's not an excuse. Mayfield has won 5 of the past 6 titles in their divisions and Highlands has won 7 of the last 9. Should the KHSAA intervene in either of those cases?

Why in the world does the KHSAA only pay for (59) persons? Does the KHSAA release an expense report from the finals? Do they get a portion of the concessions and/or parking? If they have title sponsors to pay for the facilities, where does the rest of the money go? Especially, if you're not paying for "commuting" teams.

I kinda agree, that doesn't give a lot of rooms for a lot of teams. Especially 3A to 6A teams when you factor in players and coaches. I notice it says 59 persons including coaches, players, cheerleaders, sponsors, and principals.

 

The larger teams generally have more players than the allowance is for.

Seriously? There is a system in place for a professional league that the KHSAA needs to look into? What part of the collective bargaining agreement would you like the KHSAA to implement? How would you like to change county, school, and Diocesan borders to be able to make sure that St. X and Trinity shrink in size and all of the other schools with over 2,000 students get their best athletes to grow up in a football tradition at their school?

I'm curious also. With 4 classes the same teams dominate. With 5 classes the same teams will dominate. With 3 classes....fuggetaboutit.

 

There really isn't much anyone can do except pray that when the big dogs have a down year it is when your favorite school has one of the good talent cycles coming through.

And yet they were able to have a ceremony, clear all fans out, media, do takedowns of all this stuff, clean, and hand over to KHSAA within about 2-3 hours in time for the first game of the evening on Saturday? Hmmm. I understand what you are saying, but my point is, this is something that they do EVERY week. It runs like clockwork. It is quick and efficient, and I'm of he opinion a better solution could have been worked out.

 

Don't get me wrong. It worked out ok for Pikeville, but really was unfair to both teams to have one day less of preparation for the game, while some schools got an extra day or two.

 

Like I said, overall very happy with facilities, etc. just thought it could have been handled better and definitely showcases the need for a contingency plan to be worked into the contract.
