The San Bernadino killings are a "wonderful opportunity" ???

I'm serious about this, who in NKY would be interested in meeting to discuss this? It's always better face to face, and I am confident that anyone on here will show respect towards each other in person. Knowing RTS I already know it would be a good conversation.

That is also what those in DC need to do, have a conference, invite all sides, show respect for the other side, finally get things done. They need to get back to the Tip O'Neil days, when he said that they argue like hell on the floor, but at night they meet up for drinks and food and talk it out. We need to get back to that.

You could likely count me in.

Every "tat" is a bullet. That's how many times an AR-15 is capable of dispensing lead in 4 or 5 seconds.

Tell me again why any civilian needs to own one.

You sir, are willfully ignorant on this subject.

Please educate yourself on the difference between fully automatic and semi-automatic weapons.

You really are embarrassing yourself.

I would be in but I live in Central KY.

Your ignorance of what actually happened in San Bernardino is more appalling. Semi or full auto? Who cares if one can go online, buy a few parts and make 'em full auto. Luckily, the two shooters were unsuccessful ... but you get the point.

The most distressing part of the following story is that the rifles were purchased legally.

******************************

Fourteen people died and 19 people were injured in the shooting at the Inland Regional Center. Two police officers were later injured during a shootout that killed suspects Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik.

Meredith Davis, a special agent with the bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, said the rifles were purchased legally. But the .223 caliber Smith & Wesson M&P 15 authorities recovered had been modified to make it fully automatic, illegal under federal law.

A field test of the rifle showed the modification did not work, she said.

The other rifle - a .223 caliber DPMS A-15 - was modified to accept a high-capacity magazine, and to bypass the so-called bullet button, which makes removing a magazine easier, Davis said.

California bans guns with magazines that detach for quick reloading. Since 2000 the state has banned the sale or manufacture of magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds.

At least four magazines designed to hold 30 rounds were recovered from the Inland Regional Center.

Technicians are coming to California to examine both rifles to make an official determination, Davis said....

The point you are missing is that you want to ban a legal gun because someone did something illegal to it and with it.

I can buy a diesel and fertilizer legally, but if I blow up a building with them I used them illegally. Does Diesel and Fertilizer need to be outlawed? You can buy a car get in it drunk and drive through a Parade killing dozens, do cars and beer need to be banned?

Quit blaming the objects and blame the criminals...there is evil in this world and there will always be evil, no new warm and fuzzy law will change that.

Are there some things (nothing that you've proposed outside of better back ground checks) that can and should be done, sure. But even the most well thought out changes will not prevent bad people from doing bad things.

99.99% of Mass Shootings fall into one of three categories.

1) Criminal Activity (Think Gangs, drugs, etc)

2) Mental Illness (see How many mass shooters were on psychotropic drugs prior)

3) Ideologues (Planned Parenthood, Radical Islamist)

So what do we do?

1) We battle them with stiffer penalties for gun crimes, no plea bargain and walk deals.

2) We rewrite HIPPA to allow mental health records to be part of the background check process

3) No law we write will stop these people from carrying out attacks...whether it is a mass shooting, blowing up a church with dynamite or crashing a plane into the White House

I would be in but I live in Central KY.

A shame, you would be a good one to have there as well.

Far from ignorant on this subject and the shooting.

What you say was done to the weapons proves my point. The weapon wasn't the problem, it was the bad guy that was the problem. Thanks for proving my point.

Again, you're willfully ignorant of these things. The information is there, you just don't like what the truth is, so you ignore it. Being willfully ignorant is on YOU.

I just got a reply from relative of mine in Chicago who has a 3D machine. He can make a mag to hold as many rounds as I want. This is one reason why a limit on capacity won't work.

The focus should be 1) utilize the laws already in place. 2) what new regulations can we start that will keep the rights of law abiding citizens but help take weapons away from the bad guys?

TTP really needs to bow out of this thread. The more he posts the more he makes himself look foolish and willfully ignorant on the subject of firearms. He doesn't even understand that he just made the case of what many on here have been sayings for quite frankly years now. Criminals will find a way to break the law. No gun control measure will stop a criminal from doing what they want to do to kill innocent people. He has also proven what I've said many times. Regardless of how many laws or restrictions you have if you know what you're doing you can alter guns or magazines to inflict the kind of damage you want. Maybe someday he'll wake up and understand how wrong he and those he parrots are and start looking for real solutions for what the real problem is. But I certainly won't hold my breath.

I'm just waiting for the party line rhetoric from TTP on this one. Should be entertaining.

I must be scoring some points for you to play the "really needs to bow out" card. I thought these boards were about the free flow of information and opinion.

I must be scoring some points for you to play the "please bow out" card.

No, you've not...I just think that he is trying to spare you.

They are for that but sadly you have zero information that would be helpful to anyone and your opinion is way, way south of misguided. I'm not trying to pick on you but when it comes to firearms, it's really not your strong point. You simply don't know what you're talking about. Again, I don't mean that as a slight, it just is what it is. Next time you want to join in a thread about firearms I'd suggest you brush up on some knowledge.

Better ban those 3D machines before they start killing people.
