Michigan State 71 Louisville 67

Featured Replies

Why in the world did Louisville keep fouling Valentine in the last minute of the game? They had opportunities to foul other players and didn't. His 6 straight free throws sealed the game for the Spartans.

The dumbest foul was when UL was down 1 and committed a foul at just under 1 minute.

I have given up on college basketball understanding the concept of going 2 for 1. Infuriates me to no end.

Good point. Something that is always talked about in the NBA, but rarely in the college game.

The charging call on Lee was horrible. No way that was a charge. Anas played soft and I bet he missed 5 open layups.. Anyways it was a good showing and they played MSU better than Kansas. Could be one of CRP best team his had in Louisville.

I haven't paid much attention to Da Ville this year but I must admit I'm surprised that so many Da Ville fans seem to consider this a "quality loss". December hoops are mostly meaningless, but still a bit surprised by the level of satisfaction from this game.

Full disclosure: I didn't watch a single second of this one, unfortunately...so all I know is what I have read (and highlights).

That could be why. By watching the game last night I can see where L'Ville fans are getting their optimism. This was a very competitive game and Louisville looked pretty good. They jumped up by around 15 or so to start the game but Sparty battled back, and then it was a shootout for the rest of the game. Louisville definitely has some play makers in Lee and Mitchell. They also have some size, athleticism, and some grit and toughness that's going to go a long way for them.

For Sparty, Valentine is playing lights out this season. He is doing a little bit of everything, I mean he may be a better Draymond Green than Draymond Green. If I were an NBA team picking in the 20's in this years draft I would definitely give him a serious look, guy is almost a triple double waiting to happen in the college ranks and that is rare. His shot looks good, he has the length, love the passing ability, and he's been rebounding the ball well.

All of the other guys on Michigan States squad compliment him well and as always Izzo has them playing as a team. So UL and Sparty are both going to be there as serious contenders in March/April.

That play determined the outcome of the game really. That should have been an and1...instead it was a turnover and MSU scored on the other end.

No. :lol2:

I'm convinced our backcourt can get it done. Now it's time for the big guys to step up. Onuaku HAS to stay out of foul trouble. Mango has to not single handedly give the game away when he is in there. Johnson, Mahmoud and Spalding all need to continue improving.

From a Cards fan, your statement definitely has some merit. I can only speak for how I felt after the game. I don't like the term quality loss which I'm not certain exists, although this definitely would have been a quality win. I've been conditioned to not expect much from a Pitino-coached team at this point of the season. For all his faults, one of my favorite aspects of following his teams (and I realize this isn't necessarily unique) is the change that occurs throughout the season. I was bummed for about a minute after the buzzer partially because they looked like they belonged on that stage. Honestly though, the biggest reason I felt great is because I think I had more fun watching this game than any single time last season.

Believe me, I'm not comparing this squad on any talent or competition scale (they're no where close), but this team feels like the 2013 team in that they have a sense of confidence, they seem to like each other, and the games are fun to watch. Outside of being the favorite, I can't ask for anything else as a fan. Maybe this is a facade since last year's camaraderie was so low coupled with the relief of watching actual basketball after the fun that was this offseason, but this season is going in about as good a direction we could have hoped for, all things considered.

I've said regularly on this board how much I hate the way charges are called in the NCAA. Even by the terrible standards the NCAA has for charges, that was pretty egregious last night.

It would be darn near impossible for a defensive player to draw a charge if I was making the rules.

But Louisville shot itself in the foot plenty. Way too many missed easy ones around the basket... same problem as last year. The big guys are improved offensively, but they're definitely not good at it.

Gene Steratore made the call. Imagine that, an NFL referee making a bad call...

You still owe me a week!

Not sure any UofL fan went in realistically expecting to win at MSU. There's a lot of promise with this team.

I thought RP was going to do it. I don't know how to make that my avatar. Can you tell me how or let me choose another Cardinal logo?

This team is solid.
