Good luck to Q. Baker, he is an exceptional athlete. His talent, speed in unquestionable. Only question, drawback I have heard on the young man is attitude, discipline problems. I have no idea how WKU coach Brohm handles discipline but I full well know that Doc Holliday at Mashall is as no nonsense, strict as it gets. Holliday puts up with nothing, has had no problem in booting starters off the team, doesn't matter to him who you are. That's what I like and respect about Holliday ... He tells his players "here is the rules, you are getting free college education and if you screw up then you're gone".

Local sports in brief: Baker shifts course again, to Hilltoppers

ASHLAND Ashland senior running back Quinton Baker, shifty and elusive on the field, has changed course again with his college choice, too.

 

The dynamic back announced Monday on social media he plans to play collegiately at Western Kentucky. He has previously been verbally committed to Kentucky and, most recently, Marshall.

 

“At this time I would love to commit and close my recruitment and attend Western Kentucky and be a Hilltopper,” Baker wrote on Twitter. “More than excited to stay in state and represent!”

 

Baker will join fellow Ashland senior Drew O’Bryan in Bowling Green.

Ha, I have several. Only slightly shaped differently.

18 year old kids do that.

 

Its an Ashland thing, they are good for not honoring commitments.

Hypothetical: kid gets first offer and for a couple months no other offers. Then gets told that he is one of three offered at that position and the first to commit gets the scholly. Should he commit or wait in the one he really wants?

I will finish the hypothesis: the kid commits to not lose the offer and a month late receives multiple offers including the school he wants to attend. What should he do then? Did he get played by the first one? It is easy to sit and say he should have waited if you know the outcome.

Congrats to Baker. It doesn't matter if it's Alabama or EKU, the kid is going to get his education paid for and that's all that matters.

 

Kids do seem to flip flop with commitments in football. Do you think it is because there are more kids recruited each year in football ? Seems to be somewhat rare in basketball.

 

I have no problem with it. You're in play until you sign your paperwork. Do you think Marshall would have passed up on a better running back than Baker had one wanted to commit ? Absolutely not. Baker is trying to put himself in the best situation possible and I have no problem with it.
