Naw I like the 2 hr drive not the 5 hr drive to Louisville

 

It's a two hour drive between Louisville and BG. So if you live within two hours of BG the maximum time a trip to Louisville could take is four hours. Where could you possibly live that could add an hour to that?

Louisville would be so much easier just from a travel point, Teams in western ky hit 65 and go north, Lex hits 64 and is there, NKY hits 71 and is there, even south eastern hits 75 to 64 and is there, the parkways going to BG are terrible. Plus like people have said, who cares about the empty seats, pretty much every state out there plays in too big of a stadium for the finals.

Things that are certain in life: Death, Taxes, and if you hold an event outside Louisville people in Louisville will complain about the location.

In my promotion of Murray State to host I must also point out that another wonderful feature is the LBL. Families coming down to watch lil Johnny could go camping wither before or after the games and take advantage of the many nature trails and beauty of the Lakes or go to the buffalo range, planetarium, 1850's homeplace or Kentucky's first iron furnace. With these amenities I can not believe no one else has got on board with me to push for Murray

I go from Louisville to BG on an almost weekly basis. It isn't 2 hours. Well at least it isn't for me anyway.

I took me about two hours, but then that was my first and only time going there so I didn't really know the lay of the land.

 

EDIT: Also, given what you say, that 'five hour' trip to Louisville becomes even more impossible.

There's nothing like playing in a gigantic, empty stadium to really give you that state title game atmosphere.

In all honesty, I think many, including the KHSAA would be shocked at the number of people that would attend the finals if they were held at UK.

It was held there in 1976. I went to the KHSAA site, but they only list attendance back to 1984. I'd be interested to know if there was a huge jump in numbers.

I don't know about in the 70's, but I think right now the numbers would be better in Lexington then any other place in the state.

I think you're probably right, but I highly doubt it's going to be enough of a jump for the attendance to not feel like it was swallowed up by the size of Commonwealth.

Very chuckle-worthy @WESTSIDE. I have lived here my whole life and had no idea that Kentucky's first iron furnace was near. Many weekends I just gather the family up and we go out to look at historical furnaces. Can't believe this one slipped by.

Move the KHSAA offices to Elizabethtown.

Build a 15000-20000 seat facility with the type of track to host football, soccer, track, tennis

Build a 15000 seat gym to host basketball, volleyball and whatever else i'm forgetting.

You guys who are complaining about everything and everyone pony up and pay for it.

I know but I found the exact geographic center point which is probably in a cow pasture somewhere. They could put the center point at the center of the 50 yard line. They also the Makers Mark Museum around there. I have been through there a few times. There is a Holiday Inn and plenty of Bates' Motels. LOL!!!
