Not what I was expecting you to have said. I was thinking more along the lines of Joker inherited a team that had been successful (by uk's standards) yet proceeded to plummet while he was in control. On the other hand, Stoops inherited a dumpster fire that had been winning a couple of games a year prior to his arrival. Completely different situations, IMO.

There's a lot of teams who don't have 6 wins so they're likely to get a chance to play

Before I say this I want to first say that there are entirely to many bowl games.

 

But what I want to put out there is not only are there to many bowl games and not enough playoff games, there are to many times that that change from year to year.

 

Whats next? Do you have to be able to spin on your head and catch the football with your feet?

This team, while somewhat disappointing, is still improving under Stoops. Kentucky was terrible under Joker and it will take time to build up the roster.

 

They made improvements this year. I say we give Stoops more time. Maybe I'm crazy.

 

I honestly have not seen a single thing they have improved upon. We could look at potential improvement from last year or potential improvement from any point throughout this year, but I truly don't see a single thing I would consider an improvement. What's crazy is that they seemingly had no where to go but up. It's not like in any point during Stoops' tenure they were trying to improve upon anything resembling a winning record. They were already at the bottom of the barrel, and they're still there. My opinion might be a little different if we weren't beat over the had with "Why not" or whatever the catchphrase of the week is or if they didn't have the easiest schedule I can ever remember this year. This has been a bad team for a while, and I don't see much of a path to becoming even slightly below average. They just had everything to play for and were outscored 38-3 by a below average football team after being spotted 21 early points at home.

There is a laundry lists of problems.

Coaching, OL, Defense, WR who can't catch balls and won't play for Towles, Special Teams, Off play calling, QB consistencyyou name it.

I agree. This is a good observation. Towles should have taken a leap forward if QB development is efficient.

 

Hard to do when you have garbage for a line and WR's who can't catch. Other than thag yeah he should've been a better QB. Lol

Anyone think Les Miles could use Towles for a year with the recruiting class he has coming in, Fournette in the backfield with him and a stud offensive line to play behind? For that matter, since Miles has not been able to recruit a competent QB out of high school, why wouldn't he look for any 5th yr. SR with a year of eligibility (e.g., Russell Wilson's year at Wisconsin) to come in and help?

Of all of the position groups on offense, there's one that could have single-handedly improved this team by themselves. The receivers.

 

Our RBs were fine this year.

 

If the O-line pass blocks better, the QB still has to deliver the ball and the receivers still have to catch it.

 

If the QB makes better throws & decisions, the receivers still have to catch it.

 

If the Offensive Coordinator makes better calls, the offense still has to execute.

 

But improve the receivers, and by themselves the offense gets better without relying on improvement by anyone else.

 

I wish there was a drill or technique that could improve them, other than just saying "catch it".

Bad wording. Wasn't a "requirement" was they take the 5-7 teams in APR order. UK was not in the top 20 of the list. I'm looking for that now. Full disclosure I think the way APR is calculated in a joke. UK men's hoops has a 995. Football is 945. I get it only calculates those that stat for 4 years, but that does kind of make is a skewed number.

Wow, after blowing a lead like that just how far does this set UK football back ? I like Stoops but he needed this one very bad. Actually a bg problem imo is this stinkin' air raid offense. U.K. is Not talented enough to run it and it puts a big extra load on a bad defense.

Neither qb is consistent, one series they can look like an all American, the next they couldn't run a team or throw it in the ocean when wading in it. QB's can't throw, receivers can't catch and a couple of good RB's can't get consistent blocking. Special teams stink, Defense can't stop anyone, team has average starters and Zero depth ..... other than that, the Cat's ain't bad. :sssh:. :lol2:

Disagree that it is the offensive style that is wrong. Air Raid is probably the biggest equalizer offense there is outside of the triple option in college. UK just isn't talented.

 

And Shannon Dawson is perhaps the worst play caller/schemer I've ever seen in this offense. I believe he understands very little about defensive schemes (in comparison to other college OCs).

 

That said UK cannot afford a third OC in three years. Stuck hoping he gets better. If UK ends up with James Coley calling the O next year somehow, fold the program.

Let's be honest, if UK was serious about winning they would have hired Mike Leach tree years ago. If they have to let Stoops go in the future they should not take no for an answer. No one does more at a program like UK than him.

Brooks while at UK hit a period most coaches would have been fired. Mitch decided to stay the course and he led UK to series of Bowl Games. But overall was 39-47.

 

Joker inherited a team that graduated a lot of talent the year before was given 3 years. Wasn't afforded the same as Brooks. 13-24 was his record.

 

Stoops has recruited better than previous 2 coaches, but yet hasn't developed any of the talent. His record is 12-24. It's his 3rd year and had a contract extension. Plus investment in facilities. Hasn't done anything in the win column better than Joker.

 

My question is why didn't Joker get the same amount of time as Brooks and Stoops?
